Whats the good bad and the ugly on these? Figure on loading them to 3100fps in a 270 Win as an all arounder

Nothing wrong with them except they are boring. Easy to load and get to shoot and drop deer reliably.

I have killed dozens of deer with that very bullet from a 270 Weatherby, it is just one of the quickest killers I've ever seen. Showed down very slightly to 3100 fps versus 3400 should make no practical difference.

My only problem was a 10 yard shot on a huge wild hog,bullet blew to pieces on the near shoulder,your slightly slower load would have been better. I just shot close hogs in the ear hole after that,at 10 steps it's a big target.

I’ve killed many deer with that bullet at around that speed. One of the best Deer bullets in my opinion.

I dunno how many big game animals my wife and I have taken over the years with the 130 Spire Point Interlock, but started using it in the 1980's and it always worked great.

There is nothing wrong with that bullet at all. Good bullet. Load it up and go hunting.

Great bullet for the .270Win. When a bullet manufacturer makes a say a 165gr 30 caliber it may be used in a 300 savage at the lower end or a 300 Weatherby at the upper end of the velocity range which means it may not be perfect for either round. However, almost all .277 bullets will be used in the .270Win. Making a .277 bullet that holds together, expands and penetrates well is not as much a challenge.

You guys ever tried an elk with one?

I've always been a fan of the 280 and the 06. Just recently started shooting the 270. So far I've tried E-tip, Partition and Interlock. As far as I'm concerned they are all great bullets.

But I'd go with the partition or the E-tip on elk if I were to use the 270. (The Interlock would likely be OK too, I don't know). Perhaps going to a heavier bullet too for a bull. This year, I'm going to try a 130 grain E-tip for a cow elk tag in WY. I'd bet that a 150 grain Partition to be perhaps the best "Bigger" game bullet in the 270.

I don't have the experience that John or his wife do with the 270 though. (that said with many cartridges)

I have never had anything less than optimum results with it on targets and from woodchucks to caribou with 61 grains of RL22 and a F210 primer.

56g of H4350 worked great for me with that bullet.

Way too boring for the 21st-century hunter. I mean, who would want a bullet that kills with no drama and no advertising campaign?

Great bullet. If it was the only bullet I had for a .270, I would use it with confidence...

A similar question was asked about Interlocks in general earlier this year so just recycling my post from that thread. The two below are 130 grain Interlocks fired from a .270.



As they say, pics are worth several words. Here are two Hornady .277 130 grain SP Interlocks recovered from a deer shot at about 90-100 yards and again at 6". Winchester Model 70 .270 24" barrel, load used RL-22 for right at 3200 fps MV - yes, I was attending the Bob Hagel School of Reloading in those days. These were both found under the skin on the far side of a previously healthy mule deer buck of about 250 lbs live weight, both shots broadside through the chest, left bullet hit about 1/2 of the way up behind the left foreleg, second bullet fired as a finisher into the top of the heart/aorta area.

Left bullet hit at an approx. velocity of 2950 fps, the right one hit at a full 3200. Left one is expanded to .480" measured across the lead and weighs 78 grains, right one is about .410" and weighs 59 grains, that's including whatever petrified deer is left in there. Middle bullet is an unfired bullet of the same type for comparison.

So, even at high impact velocities - I think 3200 fps is considered very high for a C&C, the cup and core did not separate, they expanded to almost twice their diameter and retained around 60% and 44% of their weight respectively. The weight that was shed did its job as shrapnel since internal damage to the lungs and heart was extensive.

We have shot thousands of those bullets and killed lots of deer. They simply work. I will always have at least a couple hundred on my reloading shelf. It is the only bullet my Dad has shot since the 70's when a neighbor used to reload for us.

My son is using an 85gr TSX at 3600fps this year out of his 270 and I am using a 130gr NBT or TTSX depending on which rifle I am carrying.

If it was the only bullet I had to use for rest of my hunting I would not have any issues. But then it is harder to find a bullet that will not work in a 270, than one that will.
