I recently bought a Siamese Mauser converted to .45-70. It has a Timney low profile safety installed. It is VERY difficult to get the safety to the "ON" position, but can be done with a little wiggling and down pressure on the coking piece. Can someone steer me to what area I need to take material off of on the safety to make it engage easier? I've searched a ton of You tube videos, but all I can find is for regular Mauser safeties.

If you look at the safety, the leading edge that contacts the cocking piece is tapered. It starts thin and goes up to a standard thickness. This standard thickness is what holds the cocking piece in place so the trigger will not release. You need to file the leading edge to a sharper angle than what's on it now...just the very beginning 1/8 inch to help it engage the cp. If you taper it too much it will not hold the cocking piece back and when you pull the trigger the gun will fire. Clear as mud? powdr
