Photobucket has ruined all the great content we had on here for figuring out what to have Gene build the next time your name comes up. It sure would be nice if everyone would post pics and descriptions.

Top #1 Semi, S30v, jigged and blasted g10
Bottom Barebones, S30v, Westinghouse micarta

I have only one by Gene. He made it special for me. It is an enlarged version of his Sodbuster design. He called it the "Big Boy Sodbuster". It is very good as an all around belt knife, and particularly good at processing dead animals.

Sorry for resurrecting an older thread but I thought it was useful for those of us looking to order an Ingram knife. I have a ways to go until my name comes up but I’m enjoying looking through pics of his work.

Below is a sodbuster, vintage paper micarta, black liners and stainless pins.

I have not had a chance to use it yet but I do like it. I have a couple of others I can post as well.

Would love to see some more knives. It helps with the decision making process...

Had a lot of Mr. Ingram's knives over the years but this is my favorite pair for deer. Crappy pic but it was easy to get to.....Yellow Jacket and #1 semi, yellow G10, black pins, black liners, S30V, kydex.

I'm surprised more makers don't put a sharpening choil on their knives.

In a hunting knife it isn't a big deal, but in a bushcraft, fighter, hard use type it has been a weak link so most stopped doing it. Phill Hartsfield did a good study on it after a Mercenary down in South America was shot by a .308 and the bullet hit the blade right between the transition from blade to handle. It cracked across. Phill Replaced the knife at no charge. So he stopped putting Choil on his knives. If I remember right that was sometime around 1992.

I'll keep that in mind next time I buy a knife to use when moonlighting as a mercenary soldier dodging .30 caliber bullets. WTH...?

A choil is a good place for hang ups. Just my personal opinion.

A choil does not give you a longer cutting edge, just a notch that can be hung up on
in some uses. Also as noted above could be a weak point in the structure that does
not necessarily need a 30 cal incident to fail, but if properly rounded should be ok.
They do look nice though.
Again, just my 2 cents.

Agree. I don't care for it. But if a nice knife has one I wouldn't pass up buying just because it did.

I love when people don't have a clue what they are talking about so have to resort to comments like yours. Probably a good 90% of the designs in knives you use, have been developed from things you don't and or won't ever do. But you still get to benefit from it. But please keep on truckin, I am laughing.

As could just as easily be switched to say the same thing for guys that can't sharpen a knife that doesn't have a choil.

It isn't the steel, I got room for all kinds of steel. Lackluster grinds more like it. I don't need to chop down a tree with my hunting knives.

Don, as you know, it's wasted time and energy and isn't going to change anything.

Yeah, I know. But I didn't have anything better to do when we was done pheasant hunting. Watching MCH blather on about choils, cluelessness, mercenaries, makers who don't choil, and lackluster grinds, all before he even posted a pic on a pic thread was well worth the wasted time. And I didn't expend all that much energy typing with one finger.....

As far as a thread that documents the fine Knives/patterns crafted by Mr. Ingram this does not do him justice. Would be appropriate if we could have a redo. Just my thoughts.

This thread is over two years old and never really had legs until yesterday.

Yeah, it got a little side tracked, but there are some great representations of Genes knives regardless.

Jud,

Laffin'...Yep, that's mine.
I had all the brighter colors in G10 covered so I figured I'd give pink a whirl. laugh

It's definitely one I could borrow to a buddy and be guaranteed to get it back.

That’s a nice looking knife. How do you like it? Did you alter it at all or is that the standard B&T #1? I’ve been back and forth between that and the B&T #4.

It is a standard #1B&T. The scales are a bit thicker than any of the more traditional scales that Gene puts on those knives.

I have my fair share at least but I don't think anyone can match GW's collection. I've been drooling over the photo's he posts here and on AR for years!

Wow, those are great. I’d love to fine a few Ingrams with Westinghouse scales to buy, especially in S30V. I always seem to miss them when they come up in the classifieds. I only have a #1 Semi currently but will add more if I can find a couple.

I have really enjoyed following this thread and the pictures of beautiful knives. For me, having the opportunity to observe the different knives and styles is surely an education opportunity. I should come due on Genes build list for another this May or so. Plenty of time to use all of this information to guide my final decision.

Reggie - I believe the smaller orange is H325 and the other is a Slim model with a longer blade, tapered tang. 4" blade with 4-1/4" handle IRC. Both S30V.

That looks great. I like that extra 1/4". Do you think those carbon fiber scales will get slick when bloody? Never had a knife with them but have wanted one

I have that exact CF in an Ingram 4S. It gets tacky as [bleep] when blooded.

ALL good in that vein.

Only negative is it chips like crazy in heavy use...
