Has anyone used the Hornady GMX 125gr in the 06 and what powders worked with it. I have used all the heavier weights, but as I get older, the lighter weights and perceived recoil seem interesting. I am probably going to start with Varget for all the obvious reasons including temp stability.

Anybody used any of the GMX bullets and are they comparible to regular jacketed bullets or to Barnes TTSX bullets in regards to loads.

I played with some 150 GMX in my 30 odd 6 and found them to be very like normal cup and cores as far as the same loads making the same speeds.... I don't know that that necessarily means they were making the same pressure but I can't imagine it was terribly different. personally I would think the 125 would have a shorter bearing surface and probably would be much like a cup and core there too. If it were me I would not dabble near Max loads but I sure wouldn't shy away from Mid loads and see how they compare?

In the two .30'06's I've tried them in, they seem to be comparable to the 125 Sierra or the 125 Accubond, a little faster then either, but not significantly so. IMR 4064 & 4320 both gave good groups, as did IMR 4198 for a reduced load for my son. But, with the reduced load, I didn't go with the GMX for hunting, expecting better on-game performance from the softer Sierra.
Best - Andy

I stumbled across the most accurate load i have ever fired in a 30-06 using 56.5 H380, CCI magnum primers and 125gr Nosler BT. Mild recoil compared to the 165's.

I have seen in the Hornady manual that due to the gilding metal makeup of the GMX, that regular data can be used. Just wanted to see if that was what others have seen to be true. I have Varget, H380, IMR4350, IMR4064, and a few others that I can try. So I think, I will be able to find something that works. I like the lighter bullets and will try several 125s to give choices. This is my first 06 to own and I'm looking forward to playing with it. Thanks for the info.
