I'm encouraged reading this thread because I have never considered my .22 Magnum up to the task of being a dependable coyote rifle. It is a peep sighted old Savage M24 DL .22 Magnum over a 3" 20 gauge which could make into a pretty serviceable compliment to my Fox Pro varmint caller. Whenever I have encountered a coyote, it was either moving too fast for a rifle or too far away for a shotgun. That M24 DL seems to have those bases covered with a 30-40 grain .22 Magnum up top or a load of 20 gauge #4 buck shot below with a flick of the barrel selector

My other auto is a .45

I would pick the Silver box WW 40 gr HP's. They seem to work a bit better than thhe CCI's and are more accurate in my five .22 Mag firearms. I have killed several at up to 80 yards or so.

I haven't used the 30 grainers on coyotes.

Mind if I ask where you found them for that price?

Cabelas. I think they were $9.99 but they are also doing 10% off for Veterans until tomorrow. It's a quick validation on their website and shipping is free over $99

There are coyotes and there are COYOTES...

I spent most of one season calling eastern coyotes with a .22 mag. It can work. There are many better options.

I really like my RAR .17 HMR. And I will take a coyote or 2 with it.
I don't think it will set the coyote world on fire.

Back in the 80s I wandered a lot of country with my old remington 581 .22 LR. I took a few coyotes with it. Doesn't mean it's a choice coyote rifle. I believe that those days were the time when I began to pick up on passing on some shots.

.22 mag, .17 HMR, .22 LR... These are all cool cartridges for a companion and walking around rifle. Carry one in coyote country and you will have opportunities...

That RAR has a rare 14 twist, so should shoot the 50's better than most.

The Hornady Vmax is noticably more accurate than the CCI. I'm using it in a 640 Mossberg Chuckster
