Love that field pic. I hope you submit it to F&G for the reg book! I did send it in Mike, not sure if they will ever use it though. After looking at the pictures that made it into the 2018 regs I would have needed to wash all the scary blood off of it. It does make a better picture without the blood but what can you do sometimes!

I don't have it but that's a good point. I'll see if I can find someone who does. That wood really adds a lot! Nicely done. Thanks Art. Valley sawmill scrapwood and about an hour of messing around. I never really liked those commercial plaques.

I love the wood! Skull is very clean and white.
I"m having an issue right now with used 35 % Hydrogen peroxide all of a sudden not turning skulls white.... guess I'll have to go back to the hair bleach route, I can't afford a gallon of the stuff every few skulls....

I used the volume 40 hair stuff with some of the powder mixed in. After applying it I wrapped the skull in saran wrap then put a hair dryer to it for 1/2 hour or so and really heated it up. Then let it sit overnight. I think that helps quite a bit to get things going, just like at a hair salon when they bleach hair. I did put some elmers/water mix on it when I was done. I've heard mixed reviews about doing that but it looks fine to me on both my boys and mine I did last year.

Here I'd put the paste on and then put a heat lamp aimed at the skull to warm it up for a few hours and generally let it sit until the stuff cracked. Never tried Saran Wrap. May have to play that game this time. The elmers is just a way to seal it. Like anything, as long as it doesn't crack later its fine. I"ve used satin clear sealer before too and had no issues.

I’m digging the spalted wood in that plaque. Good job to both of you.

Awesome job. Did you make that wood plaque? I'd love to see how I could get one or two for future mounts. Thanks

Looks damned good. Better than mine - I used some salvaged plaques...

Thanks There's a sawmill about a mile from home and we just walked around looking for scrap pieces of live edge stuff. I cut it out with a sawzall and jigsaw, then put my boy to work with a palm sander. Finished it off with by rubbing it with mineral oil just to bring out some grain. It took about an hour to make. No two will be the same, which I kinda like.
