It's nothing special but I'd like a nice wood stock Remington model 7 in 7mm-08. I could buy one... But don't "need" it so I haven't. Maybe someday.

This reminded me that I have 2 Pre'64 Fwts in 270.....just for the hell of it...:-)

I have all of the rifles I will ever likely "need" but one I am missing and a hole I would like to fill is a marlin 30-30. I want to scope it and it would be shot and used so I don't need anything fancy. I just want a lever 30-30 to plink with. I bought an old marlin 35 Rem and a nice winchester 94 30-30 for $100 each but never warmed up to the top eject winchester so it went down the road. I would also like to have a Henry lever action 22 to add to the collection as well. There is something that is just cool about a lever action gun that makes them fun.

It seems most of my rifles are "just for the hell of it" since the first deer rifle Dad gave me, an early production M70 Featherweight Classic in 270 Win. Since then they're all fun, but most are just for the hell of it.

If we're talking something I'd really love but don't need...I'd take a long action M70 Stainless Featherweight Classic to a gunsmith I know, have him (Larry) rebarrel it with a Krieger in a light contour chamber it in 270 Win and then bed it into McMillan Compact Edge or Brown Pound'r. I could hunt the rest of my life with those two 270s and never feel like I needed another rifle.

My next "just for the hell of it" rifle is going to be a .358 Norma. I have a hard time imagining a scenario where I would shoot something with it that I wouldn't shoot with my .300 win mag or .35 Whelen but I still want one. Been acquiring headstamped brass for a while, have a set of dies, piles of .358 bullets, a blueprinted remington action ready to be opened up, and several suitable stocks on hand. I just need to order the barrel and get something put together before I see something else shiny...like a .376 Steyr.

My "Just for the hell of it" gun would have to be a Winchester 1895 in 405 or 30-06.
Not sure what I would do with it other than hang it on the wall and shoot it a couple times a year but man are they cool.

A buddy of mine took one of those down to Texas with us hog hunting. Made short work of a few. Neat rifles.

A Browning repro 71 chambered in .375/.348. It's been done more than once, but I thought it would be a fun rifle to take to Alaska.

A Winchester 94 in .38-55 with a pistol grip, shotgun butt and a 24" barrel with a full length magazine tube. I saw a picture of one in the Winchester 94 book and fell in love.

A couple of Marlin levers in .45 Colt and .357 with 22" barrels, button magazines, shotgun butt and pistol grip. I know many would want shorter barrels, but I love 22 to 24" barrels on rifles.

I don’t really need anything, but just for the heck of it I ‘d go for a real light rifle in 221Fireball, with a 20 inch barrel. Something like an old Ruger M77 Ultralight would be good, or a Sako superlight. Probably i’d want it blued, with a pretty wood stock.
