I'd go android. My first android device was a Google Nexus 7 second gen tablet. I didn't want to give up on my flip phone and I used wifi where I could find it. When ATT told me my flip phone wasn't going to work soon I bought a Samsung S7. It has worked fine, I use it as a cycle computer, DSLR controller, planetarium, ect. Takes great pictures and you can make phone calls on it.

iphones are made by Chinese slave labor in a foxconn plant.

I like to tinker so Android for me. I bought a used Note 4 off craigslist about a year ago. Rooted the phone so I got rid of the extra bloatware programs and updated the main software. Bought a huge battery and matching case.

Now it runs a very current version Android with a big battery that will run me about 3 days at a time.

I have no interest in a "closed system" like Apple.

Google Duo sounds like a good replacement for facetime. https://www.lifewire.com/google-duo-review-4075474

I've been happy with the iPhone, but the Android sounds pretty nice.

I had a hemaroid phone for my first smart phone. My family all got iPhones. Within 2 weeks I returned mine and have stayed there through 4 or 5 phones. I think the iPhones are way more intuitive.

I have been looking at the Samsung 8 or 8+ but my search has been for an unlocked phone
from an independent dealer. The savings are noticeable over the store front dealers.

But a word of caution. I am not tech smart enough to know if that is a good idea or not. Hopefully
some of the better computer minds here will tell us how smart of a move that is.

I've seen S8/S8+ are suppose to be on sale tomorrow for 50% off. I bought my S8 from Best Buy back in July when they had a $300 off sale. I have Verizon for my carrier.
