Saw it in a gun store yesterday. .300 Magnum, made in West Germany. Part of a collection from a deceased owner who bought rifles, put them in a safe and never used them. It looks new...don't have the serial number now, I'll get that in a couple days.
What would it's value be today?
Are these considered to be good shooters?
Thanks guys!

They are the best ones until this last generation made this last year. My guess is about $1200. I know I bought my Jap Mark V for $650 and it was in perfect shape but that was about 10 years ago. They have climbed since.

IK tops out of all the Mark V's the American and German made would be my last choice. Compare the machining on the German vs the Jap model and the Jap wins going away, not to mention that horrible trigger.

The barrel contour seemed lighter then I would have expected. Looked good though, and overall I liked the way it felt. Not as heavy a gun as I expected. Are these generally considered accurate rifles?

Are these generally considered accurate rifles? I guess you can expect a stinker every once in a while but I have never experienced it yet. I have owned north of a dozen or maybe more since the 1980's.

Take a look at the used market, seems that the 300 is the most common out there driving down the price a bit. For me I agree with OEH that the German made ones would be my last choice. If you look aroung you can get one for under $1000 depending upon model and condition

I agree $1000-1200 would be reasonable, a similar condition "Japan" rifle will sell for around $800. You mentioned a light contour barrel, is it a 24 or 26"? If 24", they usually will bring a little bit more money....but damn, they are loud.
