A matte finished Python appeals to me like a BLT with no bacon on it.
The problem is today's buyer has no taste. If that wasn't true, there wouldn't be so many stainless/plastic guns. The industry is about sales, not class... I'm gonna go look for that SAA today. Travis Does this mean "Merry Christmas" for me?

I don't know why y'all are comparing the Python to the 19. This ain't 1972. The L frame Smith's are nearly identical in size to the Colt and a much better comparison. The 586 is superior in nearly every way to the Python.

ya thats like the matte finish that remington and marlin has on their guns now. ugly as hell and attracts rust like sanded iron. if it ain't stainless or nickle, i want polished blue. Oh so true. When I can get freckles on my matte finished M700's in Colorado, gawd knows what it must be like in the south..........

Matte finish in a famous revolver model means cheap work to me.
I've heard that many of the skilled machinists and polishers at the major gun companies have grown old, retired or simply let go.
Having said that, my own favorite Colt 1911 Government Model has been heavily customized by a young gunsmith fresh out of school!
He bead blasted the stainless pistol, lowered the ejection port and smoothed the feed and action, added a Swenson dual safety, a beavertail and a nylon trigger and a Hogue grip. Oh yes, trijicon sights.
Mark Krebs later moved on to his own shop in Waukonda, IL, focusing exclusively on modifications to and specialized components for AK-47s, and he is generally regarded as the best in that field. I've heard that he is so popular that he doesn't even deal direct with customers anymore, leaving that to 3 or 4 distributors of his products.
He did a fine job on my Colt!

From a pure shooting perspective, the Python leaves me clueless as to why they are so alluring. Even from an eye for appearance, I'm not sure why they have the appeal, but they damned sure do for lots of fellas. If your a revolver lover; appreciating fit, finish, action and most important function, there is truly only one brand that is tops, and that is early S&W revolvers.

My Pythons do not need to be smoothed up.
Best factory trigger on a handgun IME.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.
