Anyone have any experiences with the Austin & Halleck Mountain Rifle (flint or percussion)? I remember thinking when they came out that it was a nice looking rifle but beyond that all I know is what's been posted on-line. Seems like the on-line information is mixed - nice stocks and locks, but issues with quality control. I have to say that A&H did make a good looking Hawken but are they good rifles? Many thanks.

All I ever saw of them was a photo. Even back in the day.
Have you run up on one?

I have shot the "Hawken" they made a few times and it seems like a pretty good rifle. It is as accurate as my Ithaca Hawken and seems to be well built and well finished. It is the only one I have shot so I don't know anything about their other guns. They are, as you know, out of business so parts might be sketchy even at places like Numrich. I read that Traditions bought all the A&H stock of parts but have no knowledge if there are any left or what they bought in the first place. It the price is right I would buy one.

Remember them "Ozark Mountain Arms" Hawkens. They were a prime rifle! Gave GRRW a run for their money! I have shot them!
Stantdm? Ever run across any breech issues with your Ithaca Hawken. I bought the first one we got in the shop about 1978 or so. Pre Navy Arms buyout. Traded it to a friend that just had to have it!!! Ended up with a nice Dutch Schlinger Hawken with a GRRW barrel. Seems that Ithaca had been assembled with a tiny gap between shoulder of breech plug and shoulder of barrel thread! Maybe 1/32" or so? Saw same thing is another. Patches would hang on the jag in the gap on occasion. Wondered if you had experienced any issues???
Granted this was a long time ago!
