When the Model 70 gets the final ax, the naysayers will be sucking up those Portugal rifles like they were formally signed off on by JOC.

And years later someone like Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing will buy the name and rights-like they did with the Model 21-and make you one for $5000 or so. It won't be any better than the ones made in Portugal, but by damn it will be a Model 70 made right here. I doubt if few of the naysayers will be buying it either. wink

I don't need any Portuguese mausers. There's still plenty of pre 64's and classics around, to need any BACO rifle.. grin

And you are correct there.

However, for years now we have been hearing Portugal, Portugal, Portugal. It would be like me coming on and for years saying the only Bird Dog worth owning is an English hunting Cocker. Eventually you guys would be telling me to can it.

I'd take a new Model 70 and run with it long before I would even consider one of the Bic plastics throwaways that are the new rage.

Most of the parts are machined in the FN plant in the US. Assembly is done at the Browning plant in Viana Portugal where many Browning firerms have been assembled since the mid 70's.

Yes, and I could of course win a drag race with a kia/hyundai built Keith Black blown alcohol Hemi too.sick even if one existed. wouldn't have if it were free.

I consider John Browning/Winchester to be hallowed ground that shaped, protected, and formed this country, cheep chit foreign countries need not apply, especially in the name of excess corporate profit, I do however like FN and anything German, Austrian or Belgiun made, fine craftsmen there.

Have had and shot several BAR's over the decades, all straight Belgium guns.

And no, you go ahead and scoop em battue, you can have my share of P marked anything.

We all have choices as to what we like and want to buy, I could give a flying squirrels fuzzy ballsack what others think about what guns I like, and same/same on the 180.

I actually called them today and asked what's new in 2018. Guy I talked to said nothing new in the Model 70 lineup except their Shot Show specials, which are limited offerings, and which he couldn't talk about. Said upper management is pretty tight lipped about the Shot Show specials which I can believe.

My money is on a "Poplar" stocked Super Grade... or some such nonsense like that.

Can't speak to the Portugal assembled Winchesters, but the earlier BACO South Carolina Model 70 Super Grades are very nice indeed. I own a bunch of them. Funny thing is pre 64's never did much for me ever since I was a young man. The majority I saw and handled over the years just seemed old and plain looking. Oh and I suppose the Japanese Miroku made Daly's are just crap shotguns as well....lol

I had a FWT in 6.5x55 some years ago- wouldn't mind seeing another one of those offered. Also would like to see the EW with a slimmer, lighter stock. And while I am dreaming, a .264 with a 1:8 twist.

edit: how could I forget-a Featherweight in 9.3 x 62 or 338-06.

There's zero new in the 70 line. They are offering the Creedmoor in the XPR, but not the 70... They also have their version of the ugly assed "Precision Rifle" on the XPR action, ho-hummm....

Hard to believe W wont be doing a Creedmoor in the M70. With the US markets slowing down, one would think that they wanna stick to the tried and tested demand out there.. when last did a cartridge come along in the last 100 years that the mainstream manufacturers just could not ignore and absolutely jumped at? Surely its every Co. dream come true ... turnover for jam..

Would give my left ganoolie to be a fly on the wall at their marketing meetings discussing cartridge selections every year for the M70 ... just to understand their thinking around selection. Maybe they just wanna be different for differents sake? Dont wanna be seen doing what Remington and Ruger are doing? Maybe its and exclusivity thing ... "you should be grateful for what we select for you to use". Remington has no less than 5 different M700 variants in Creedmoor ... something for everyone in that lineup . From most of your comments I see a disappointment in W and I fear its going unnoticed by them...

I was told by a Winchester rep several months ago that they were coming out with a 6.5 Creedmoor this year. I assumed that given their lineup, it would probably be in a featherweight, but I kind of forgot about the xpr

Find out who their major distributors are. Contact them and point them to threads like this one. Or convince them to reopen their custom shop where you can, for a little bit more money, get what you want.

Just give me a left hand featherweight in any standard short-action, or long-action caliber for that matter and I'd be whistling a happy tune, something with the "true" FWT barrel contour. Just not those freakin WSM calibers!!!

The new 2018 guns are up on their website. Nothing for the M70. I suppose there might still be some special Shot Show offerings, but who knows.
