For what???? A cartridge that was a failure in the guns it was designed for. WTH not just bring out the same gun in the 45-70??????? Can't use the 450 Marlin anywhere that you can't use the 45-70.

I know it will never happen but I wish ruger would bring out the No.1 in 50-70. That would be fun.
Did they ever offer it in 500 S&W? H&R offered there single shot in the 500.

Ruger hasn't done anything above .475. H&R & T/C have done singles in .500.

Possibly because factory Ammo loaded to modern specs is easier to find, the reason the .450 exists in the first place. .444s have been selling steadily, if slowly, for decades, and Winchester has made .450s at times.

Midway shows one load from Hornady (325 gr Flex Tip...) and three from Buffalo Bore. They also show more than a dozen stout loads for the 45-70. Just not seeing it.

That was absolutely the original reason for the .450. Things may well have changed since. Winchester was able to make 94s for the round, as well as .444s, something not possible with the .45/70.

Since it's not a problem I have, I don't know for certain that the all the states that allow the .450 also allow the Govt. round, but it makes sense. It's also possible that what Midway carries may not reflect what is commonly available in stores, where many if not most hunters buy their ammo.

My best guess is that Ruger cranks these funny models out to churn the collector crowd so they have to keep buying new ones. If that helps keep the No.1 in production, I'm all for it.

EDIT: Just checked and the Flex load is the only one Hornady makes now; the original 350gr is gone. Buffalo Bore makes some real thumpers for it though, up to 500gr.

I would say that's absolutely the reason. There are tons of .45-70's out there albeit with 22" barrels and even a small run of 26" barrels. I forget if those 22" models were the 1H or 1S, this is the 1S with a medium contour barrel so maybe that's a selling point.

i was glad to buy a 460 sw no.1 goes with my smith 460 pistol, but I wish Ruger built more magnum cartridge no.1`s,these big bores are really just a short range rifle,not very useful out west for shots over a 100 yards.

The 45-70 came in the 1-S, 1-S stainless, a very few in 1-H, the anniversary engraved model, and the 26" circassian run. I saw a beautiful 26" one years ago at a shop, but didnt buy.

The 20" would be cool. It does fine in the short Marlins, so no problem there

So; I am not the only one. I feel the same about the 30 carbine. At least the 30 us is not rebated.
Abomination aside, the 450BM is now popular and as such a reasonable option for the No.1.
That is if it works, rebated rim and all. Certainly not for me. Might make a good revolver?

This is the "look" the gen-x, AR15 and Rambonistas like. IMHO, Anything that sells No1 s is a
good thing. second anything that nudges the new generation in the tradition direction is also good.
I just hope the newbies are not nut jobs that are afraid to register to vote.

I might as well comment on the 450 Marlin option. IMHO -That will be a collector gun. I am fine
with that too. Whatever sells No1's. For that matter, when was the last time you
saw a well worn No1 for sale? I am just thinking now, if Ruger does not continue the Abomination
theme those could be collectable too. It certainly is different!

From my perception the only reason I can see that anyone would want a 450 bushy over anything else, is because it fits the moronic rules established for hunting deer in limited rifle (slug only) areas in some states, like here in Michigan. There are not that many factory options if you want to reach out and touch something. For me the 460 S&W is better, with a rim and the fact that you can also fire casull or colt in it.. Obviously, the rim doesn't make it very good for a bolt gun but neither does the straight wall 450 bushy case with no belt or shoulder.

My beef with the number ones in these cals is the barrel length. I get that the velocity gain probably isn't squat going to 24", but I just don't like the way they feel or look with a 20" on the no 1 action. As always to each his own.

I would like to see a no1 with an octagon barrel in 45-70. Something a little different.

I could use a .460 to use up some of the .452 bullets I keep buying for my ML. Buy 100, shoot maybe 10, buy 200, shoot 10 more.......

Todd... Most of the folks who don't live in Mi don't know how the .450 Bushmaster Rugers came to be. Two yrs ago MI changed the laws to allow pistol cartridges for deer in Lower Mi. (Formerly Shotgun zone) The criteria was .35 cal or larger straight walled cases. With a case length of not less than 1.1" and not greater than 1.81" (Length of the .460 S&W) One of the larger gun shops (Randy's Hunting Ctr.) contracted with Ruger for 1000 Ruger Americans in .450 Bush. because that round meets the criteria to be legal in Lwr Mi. They sold out almost immeadiately. So they ordered another 1000. When they announced these would go on sale, People starter lining up the afternoon before. Those sold out just about as fast. Then Ruger decided to add them to their line, and then extended the chambering to #1's. They are so popular in MI you can hardly give away a slug gun. It probably meets the criteria in other states to be legal for deer. Personally, I don't see why the .450 should be legal and the .45-70 is not, but I don't make the laws. And when did our idiot polititions use any logic or common sense?

Oh, I stick my nose in from time to time, but nowhere near daily as I used to... BTW... The #1-AH in 6.5 "you-know-what" is done. Haven't got a chance for range time as yet, but I did take my meat deer this year with the 6.5x54 MS. Lovely little rifle! Can't believe how nice it turned out. I know you'd love it...
