Took my 2002 4wd Tahoe, 5300 V8, 115,000 miles in for an oil change and the shop mgr said due to the age and mileage of the vehicle I should have the power train module "updated" with the latest program. I advised I've never had any problems with the way the engine runs or the transmission shifts. He said this will help keep problems from occurring. $150.99 including road test. I said not today but said I'd give it some thought.
I'm all for necessary preventative maintenance but if the engine and transmission are all original and run and shift as they always have why would the original power train module that keeps them working need to be updated? Do they wear out?

No. Wouldn't worry about it if everything is working OK. He is talking about reflashing the ECU with the latest software that may have been released. Manufacturers typically update software to take care of issues that have come up. However, with your vehicle being 16 years old, I would be shocked if GM had released any software recently for it. I could be wrong, however.
Again, if it was mine and everything works OK, I'd leave it. The electrons and computer code don't wear out.
Regards,
Tom
