Not much worse than glazed feed and footing for killing sheep this time of year... famine and falls are especially tough on the old rams.

Doesn't do pedestrians any favors either. But the driveway skating is incredible this year.

Not a great year to be Chugach ram. Especially because I burned $15 on DS123, and I'm pretty sure this is the year.

Had a bit of rain here in Delta but no idea of what took place in DCUA.
Usually the rain hits the areas close to Isabel Pass and Delta River hardest.

Another week and the ridges will almost certainly be bare...

Everything is terribly glazed here at sea level.

Driving to FBX is nasty!

I imagine things down around Turnagain Arm are nasty also.

Just got back from being gone a month to various countries overseas and have not gone south since getting back, but you are likely right.

My thermometer shows 50!

Watched a spruce down the street bending right over and looking weak about an hour ago. Went to the window just now as big freight train gust was honking and over it came. Fortunately it looks like it only hit pavement.

Gusts are supposed to make 75.

Was a bit breezy this morning. It's the first time I've heard the windows shaking in our Anchorage office.

The problem is in spite of the warm blast the ground has had a sufficient freeze so there's still a layer of ice on everything.

Come on down. I'm having an ice skating party in my driveway.

This type of weather doesn't do the brown bears any favors either. We lost some bears the last few years,, old and weak probably die in the den when they flood with 0 snow cover.

You aren't supposed to stop your Zamboni until you cover the whole rink! Even if you NEED a beer!

Is it big enough a loss to really notice when hunting?

Urban Delta Junction has an old railroad passenger car that someone had intended to make into an eatery at one time.

Winds have toppled it.......it'll take serious equipment to pick that thing up.

I had a 2-place snowmachine trailer pushed about 25-30 feet in this Chinook.

I had an empty knaack box flipped over last year in the wind, which was fairly impressive.

Our hunters got their bears this fall but in day to day life here and on the Copper we noticed a few less than normal. Lots of itty bitty guys in spring and a lot less by fall!

Well, to add to this a bit late, and from farther north....

Last week we had a couple days in mid 30's, rain for a few hours Thursday evening, dropping to 7 overnight. Then back up to 24 when I left Kotz Saturday morning. Forecast calls for mid 30s again this coming week.

Real bad for caribou forging and travel, once it freezes again. I heard several bears had been spotted out feeding on gut piles. Whether it was availability/scent of food and/or flooded dens that brought them out is anyone's guess.

No serious wind forecast - only 25-30 for a day or so this coming week but I'm still glad I tied the snow machine covers down before I left. Dunno what the following week will bring.

I'm also glad I helped prevent further decline of the NWACH by killing those three probably-pregnant cows the last two weekends. At least they won't suffer hunger pangs and bloody legs he rest of the winter... feels good to be such a humanitarian. smile
