Anybody have one of these? I stumbled on to one and it seems like a pretty neat old school rifle.

I have one and it is a great "old school" .22LR rifle. Mine is very accurate.

They are neat old school rifles. The #1 - #5 great .22's. All the old Brnos . The Brno Sporters in Hornet, Bee and .222 are great little rifles.

Then CZ came along and sucked them up ....and sucked the quality right out of 'em

I agree. Too bad "new school" .22's pale in comparison to "old school" ones. It would seem that we are devolving rather than evolving.

The Model 1 is a particularly nice rifle. Production started in 1947 and ceased in 1958 and was replaced by the Model 5 which has a Model 1 barrel and a Model 2 action. The Model 5 is equally as good as the Model 1 up to late 1967 when CZ took over. The Model 1 came in three different stock versions - plain beech, plain walnut and walnut deluxe which has checkering on the pistol grip. The barrelled action on the walnut stocks were prone pitting under the stock due to some kind of reaction between the finish and the metalwork - pays to take the rifle apart to check for that. The trigger changed in late 1950 to a more adjustable version. Beautifully made miniature mauser rifles along with the earlier production Model 2.

Make sure you buy it, they're great 22's!! ..and save some cash, because you're likely to want more Brnos and CZs to keep it company.

They are a great little 22 rimfire and make a great basis for a custom! Magazines aren't too easy to find, but I've had 2 mags for my Mod1 for the last 27 years and never a problem.

Sorry... couldn't resist. This is my CZ 452 in 17 HMR that I restocked. Very similar to the Brno.

Maybe today's CZ's aren't yesterday Brno's, but neither are S&W, Colt, Rem, and wasn't there a company called Winchester. I got a Brno #4 and several CZ 22's, but I got no complaint toward my CZ's. in fact, I love them.

The CZ's from the early 80's to the current models are well made, accurate and very good value for money. The CZ's produced from around 73 to the 82 were a little on the rough side, although still accurate.

Several years ago at a small local gun show a gentleman walked in the door with a BRNO Model 1 over his shoulder. From a distance I could see that it had fantastic wood, I initially thought it was an Anschutz. When he got to my table I was surprised to learn it was a BRNO, a deal was struck and the little rifle came home with me.

I have owned more than a dozen Model 1s and still have half that many. There is little to dislike about them (trigger maybe - but they can be very good) as I have never had one that was not accurate. It is customary with a high end custom build to replace the barrel as part of the process - especially on a rifle from 1950. When I decided to do a custom Model 1, I kept the factory barrel because it was in great condition and so stinking accurate that I realized it would be a gamble to improve upon it. I also like the factory sights as a back-up to my scope. Brno got this one right and I say that because of the minor changes that have been made over the years through the Model 2, 5 and CZ 452 series.
