Hey guys, thinking of doing a archery hunt in Montana, dillon area or the big belts. Does anyone have any experience in these areas during bow season? I've heard Dillon has alot of elk but has alot of gun and road hunters so wondering how it is during Sept bow season. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

most of us who know good elk spots learned the hard way by spending money, time off work ,sometimes with no pay and many many miles up and down mountains searching for elk. if you wanna elk hunt take some time and go study elk in the mountains during bow season or go on a guided hunt ? but its alot more rewarding to learn and kill elk with bow if you learn it yourself and you may even kill a bull of a life time ! good luck,Pete53

yep

Take at least a weeks vacation next summer go to an area that holds elk and scout and hike the area a lot, take notes. Find where the elk go during pressured hunting seasons. This after calling wildlife bios and studying maps, private, public property in area this next 6 months.

Or go with a guide as mentioned. It is hard won and expensive info but very rewarding

I bow hunted for several years south of Dillon for elk, but finally quit going. Between the pine beetles and the wolves, I'd look elsewhere, unless you can get on private down lower.
