Actually, the problem goes back farther than Berkowitz. Begich and his crew started by pressuring the Police Chief to eliminate the Gang Unit, stop gathering gang intel and get rid of the gang member database, crippled the Drug Unit, and caused morale to drop exponentially. It didn't help that a couple of Chiefs were idiots who were pizz poor administrators and first class butt-snorkelers. Anchorage could become the next Detroit if Dems keep running it. Ed

The problem goes back but the highest years are on Ethan - last year and this year.
BE surprised if there is not another in the next three weeks.
I understand letting the animals kill each other but there have been little kids injured and killed in gang drivebys. Others in crossfire. It ain’t like $hitbirds watch target and beyond.

Many say they want to be tough on crime, but few want to pay for it. Talk is cheap, incarcerating offenders is not cheap. A public misconception is put them in jail and throw the key away. What really happens is reduced sentences for guilty pleas, suspended jail sentences, good time credit, ankle monitoring, poor probation supervision and early release.
From the moment the judge sends them to jail, almost every entity in the "legal system" is trying to figure out a way to turn them loose and save on prison costs. From the corrections department to lawyers, judges, parole boards, legislatures, governors, etc. Criminal justice system, baloney, it is a legal system, some times.
In the mean time victims are inadequately compensated and the dirt bag is usually planning their next crime while in jail. To make it worse all most every movie and TV show makes cops and correctional officers out to be corrupt and uncaring power trippers.
