This is for BLR358win; "Wondering if anyone knows what that nice dark red stock is? Original? A guy told me it’s a safari stock? Bishop? Checkering is different but it really looks professional "

What kind of plate? Has stock been drilled for swivels? Have never seen that checkering. Actually looks like a factory M70 stock with embellished checkering....

Thank you Jeff G! Pocono it has the Winchester metal plate. It is drilled for swivels. Not even sure it was used but if it was it was taken care of. It fit a 1958 257 Roberts action perfect. Any guess as to value? Year made? I believe it is the low comb style.

As for value, it's obviously not worth as much as it would be if the checkering pattern was original. On a good day an unaltered low comb stock in very good condition can bring $400.00 - $500.00. As it is now, I'd be happy with $150.00 or so (of course one must find the right buyer). As for the year made, the Monte Carlo stock was introduced in 1951 and was available concurrently with the low comb until 1959....

Thanks Jack. Another question. I have a 1958 (ser 431xxx) 257 Roberts rifle but the under barrel markings say 257R- 54? is it legit or rebarreled? Shoots very well. Also has a plastic butt plate.

I'd say the barrel is legit. Per Rule p.152, "the steel plate was replaced by the composition plate at approx. number 445,000 (Apr. '59)." Your gun was serialized in Apr. '58.
