I worry for my kids. When I grew up(born in 1975), "The Dukes of Hazard" was what we watched on Friday at 7:00, they showed the Disney movies(Davy Crockett, Old Yeller, ect) in grade school. Men/boys and women/girls were expected to act appropriately for their gender. You respected your parents/ teachers and had a solid sense of right and wrong.

I was raised not to judge people for being different, but at the same time we recognized that they were different.

I'm getting pretty tired of the "new normal" on society trying to tell us that it's ok to identify as anything, as long as it's not a straight Christian man. I mean when did it become morally wrong to have good Christian morals and teach them to your kids?

If you know the answer to any of this let me know. Me, I'm gonna get my boys(6 & 2) REAL coonskin caps and both of the Fess Parker Davy Crockett movies for Christmas and let people tell me what horrible sexist, bigoted values I'm passing on to my kids.

If your kids are in public schools, they are already being turned against you.

That gets more progressive as they graduate to the next grade, clear through college.

Total liberal indoctrination system.

This. America has changed in a real bad way. The liberal anarchists are still trying to destroy traditional America and turn it into their version of a socialist dream land. Ol' Joe McCarthy was right after all.

With the school systems graduation 10's of millions of voting age kids each year, where will we be in 20 years?

Hey guys, quit your bitching and raise your kids conservative. They don’t have to agree with that liberal slop they get in school. Mine are in their late 30s and sure don’t think or vote left.
And I have a brother that just retired as a HS principal. He is “right” of most of us.

Ah, the old class warfare thing. I think most anywhere in western Europe would suit you well... and they have your idolized commie healthcare. You can make many friends named Muhammad and veil your wife and daughters. Be perfect for ya.

EDIT: Bonus! You can pay up to half or more your paycheck in taxes to cover all the sick people you think need help with healthcare!

Not in the modern world.

Most parents today don't have the time education and skills to educate their kids with the skills they will need in the modern economy.

As for home schooling, are you prepared to teach your kids to code, advanced math etc?

In my daughters 8th grade math class the teacher told the kids NONE of their parents would be able to help them with their math homework.....at which point she pointed at my daughter and said "except yours". cool

Also kids need to be properly socialized. Separating them from the world does not prepare them for it. They need to experience it so they can understand the enemy and what they are up against. On a regular basis, my kids and I discuss their homework and what the teachers/text books are leaving out. I teach them skepticism, and standards of evidence so they can properly evaluate what's presented to them in a critical fashion.

However,

Since most of you old foggies are out of touch with what's happening in the real world, you are missing the bigger picture. The current generation is actually the MOST SKEPTICAL in the history of the U.S. They are the least likely to accept what they are fed by institutions, schools, governments, churches etc. at face value. They are very quick to call BS, and throw the red flag. Everyday that my kids go to school and listen to the liberal BS they become more libertarian, and it's not must my kids.....

You know, at one time people were considered able to look at issues separately and make up their own minds without having the answers spoon fed to them. Takes a special kind of stupid to blindly follow one party or the other. Of course there are those that have nothing better to do than cherry pick through everything that somebody has disagreed with them on, and repost the same 2-3 quotes REPEATEDLY which MUST prove the whoever said them is a "Fudd" or a "Pure Bred Commie". I vote Pro life first, pro gun 2nd. I don't believe in the "redistribution of wealth," I work for my money.

Fact is, and you probably don't want to hear it, and I doubt you will understand, the biggest problem we have economically is enabled fiscal irresponsibility. The government DELIBERATELY keeps the dollar in a state of perpetual devaluation. That encourages people to spend money they don't have (credit spending) and pay it off later with cheap dollars. The system falls in on itself when someone tries to retire and their income stops raising as the value of the dollar shrinks.

Should have never left the gold standard.

And we didn't think it would happen. They are quite confident that those who hold to the Republic idea will do nothing, for sure nothing physical. We are afraid of the paper that rules us.

This is a good quote, but is generally only taken at face value. The following quote should be looked at very seriously...........................

Hosea 4:6
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

It's the way it's been since man started living together in groups. The tide comes in, the tide goes out. History repeating itself over and over, like the changing of the seasons. It's almost comforting, because you already know the ending. Nothing you or me is going to do about it so why waste time or energy even debating it. Tomorrow is gone and it ain't coming back.

I graduated in 1989. Life was still pretty much as it was in the 1950's. The trends that reduced our society started with the hippies in the 60s. Partly because there was a large class that no longer wanted to be what was considered American. Then these people got older and became teachers, and professors, and bankers and such. Once you mixed the hippies with money , the are no longer hippies. They are the basis of a socialist movement. Hollywood embraced these types and while schools are churning out more and more every day, the news media is telling us they are the right one!!!!!!
I moved away from the culture I grew up in because I felt like an Alien, in the Suburbs of Philadelphia. Here in Small town Wyoming it is no different though. There are the same issues here as there were there. Culture seems to be so embedded in this 50 year old, that to Make America Great Again is near impossible. My wife and I are in our 40s now and never had children , and with her health concerns never will. I am actually glad that when I go join the "Good Lord" I will not leave behind a generation that will hate everything I love. My brother has two daughters, while being my nieces, I can barely relate to anything about them. The one that spent four years in a Good state run University is a shadow of what our family represented in the past. Now living In Denver as a marketing consultant I hardly know her...................

Knowing what I know now and being in the "Hippy" movement, I can honestly say their original idea's on what was going on world and US wise was correct. The problems started when the communist party also known as the intellegent branches seen the opportunity to infiltrate with the new communist party line of peace and love. While peace and love is a great scriptural teaching it can also be preverted. The movement was a huge springboard for operation mockingbird. EVERYONE fell for it and still are.

I am a Christian straight white man.

I am the enemy.

I am worse than any jihadi terrorist or any group of jihadi terrorists.

I am the racist, the oppressor, the rapist, the murderer, I am the slave holder.

Not that I've ever done that personally, but I'm a Christian straight white man so I am responsible for all of it for all of history.

Without me the world would be in peace, man would not kill man.

Women aren't the problem. Where would we be without them? The only good thing about gays is they are physically forbidden to reproduce.

The sixty's hippy counter culture grew up and got degrees and they actually live that crap. They teach it to our kids and pass on their love of Marxist theory, forget that it has never worked. They actually think it is just because no one as thsmart as them has ever tried it. It has infiltrated our education system and judicial system and every facet of our government. Our government thrives on socialistic practice. Our media is used as a teaching tool to great advantage. Daily they preach their theory and make it sound so good that we start blaming one another for our lot in life. The democrat party has completed the metamorphosis to openly embracing Marxist/Socialist governance and are pretty successful at advancing it with the help of our hapless establishment republicans that have grown fat on the daily corruption they have presided over in governing for many years without reprisal.

It's our fault for living our lives oblivious to the boiling cauldron we are sitting in. Antelope sniper has the right idea. We can only pay attention to our kids and give them alternate ideas to counter the stupidity they will encounter on a daily basis the rest of their lives. Our country didn't get this convoluted over night and it will not get right anytime soon without people actually deciding to get back to the fundamentals of the republic as put forth in our constitution.

God Bless America and Merry Christmas to all.

Older generations have been whining about younger generations since the beginning of time, but this place takes it to a new "woe is me" low.

not many good answers left that 51 percent of the population, more or less, are willing to agree with.

there's been too much change, and it's happened too quickly. in 70 years the world has speeded up, changed, and now values everything differently than even 50 years ago. that's some 3 generations in a world that's at least 10,000 years old.

there's the rest of the world, and they have information. it's not just us anymore.

wait, there's more. the centralization of wealth is p'ing off a lot of young people. they see the wealth statistics not just in this country but in the world. inheritance makes many people instantly rich the moment they're borne, others work their whole life, and barely scrape by. getting a good education helps. that's probably what saved me, despite johnson and his catholic & baptist friends that wanted to get me kilt in that dirty little se asian war.

in 1966, land (farm & forest) was sellin' for 100 dollars an acre. by late 67 land was at 200 per acre. inflation (guns & butter both) was beginning to set in. lucky now to find an acre for 7,000. and back in the 50's, the land was 50 an acre, and crying for buyers. that was the tail end of the cotton era, and prior to the poultry industry settling in. ah, the good ol days.

but, now, we've got the ISS, and the global internet. given the path we're on, not likely everyone will survive.

Turn off your TV’s and quit worrying about other folks. Lots of good people left in the world. Many of those don’t give a schit about church/temple/synagogue or whatever else others do either.

As to your post on healthcare, I’m not in disagreement. Our medical system is fubar. Was before the ACA too.

The key is to do it your way and not GAF what the other folks say or think.

Also, dont pawn off your responsibility to raise your kids. If you want your kids to be raised right, you have to be the one to raise them. Not some foot ball coach or baby sitter.

This.

But, with most families having to have both parents work, just to survive, it's a hard to not depend on others, and hard to spend the required time.

I think this is where a lot of "us" went wrong. Somebody was responsible for raising these people up right. While a parent cannot ultimately accept responsibility for their child's decisions in adulthood, strong parenting bleeds over into adulthood, in most cases. IMO.

Yeah, I cant square that deal.

I am not so sure that people have not traded a "lifestyle" for the responsibility of raising their kids though. Fancy clothes, a McMansion, new cars......we think our kids need this stuff. Actually, they need us to be there, not provide them with expensive junk.

My wife and I dont take the kids to Disney Land or drive new outfits........but we eat our meals together. Every day. Go to PTA meetings. School concerts.

Raising our kids is more valuable to us.

That wont matter to the country when millions in the cities are raised on the welfare plan where women are financed to be knocked up by any stud that turns them on. Gov will pay them to raise their bastids and women dont need to chose a decent man who will be a father to her kids.

One of the first steps in dedtroying a nation is destruction of the family. Womens liberation financed by well meaning lieberals have accomplished that.
Promoting socialism requires replacing belief in God with belief in self and govt. Then people can be brainwashed into believing anything, such as filling their country with heathens and open borders are good things.

Operation Mockingbird was an alleged large-scale program of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that began in the early 1950s and attempted to manipulate news media for propaganda purposes. It funded student and cultural organizations and magazines as front organizations.

According to writer Deborah Davis, Mockingbird recruited leading American journalists into a propaganda network and oversaw the operations of front groups. CIA support of front groups was exposed after a 1967 Ramparts magazine article reported that the National Student Association received funding from the CIA. In the 1970s, Congressional investigations and reports also revealed Agency connections with journalists and civic groups. None of these reports, however, mentions an Operation Mockingbird controlling or supporting these activities.

A Project Mockingbird is mentioned in the CIA Family Jewels report, compiled in the mid-1970s. According to the declassified version of the report released in 2007, Project Mockingbird involved wire-tapping of two American journalists for several months in the early 1960s.

When Hitler came to power in Germany, many among the Jewish intelligentsia there made their escape to the US and began teaching in our universities, where (as they gradually rose to administrative control) they transformed them into indoctrination centers for Cultural Marxism. We are living the consequences
today.

While that may be an element in the equation, “the problem” was seeded long before WWll and any Jewish immigrants and is ongoing.

So, what's your age and ethnicity? And why do you hang out on a website full of old white men?

I can remember when the mantra used to be, don't judge someone by the color of their skin. I guess it's still the mantra, it just doesn't apply to certain people, like white men.

Seems hypocritical when you stop to think about it. And yes, I realize you don't do that.

I`m not older then 40 and white for several generations.
I´m here to learn about rifles and hunting.

It just irritates me about older people bitching and moaning about how everybody else has ruined America. When its their generation that made it how it is today.
A Republican Party bought by the fundamentalist Christians and big business..
A Democratic party constantly involved in identity politics instead of workers rights and middle class jobs.

So whorge1.. still biching and complaining I see. I see retirement has been good to you as well.

In 20 years, whites will be a minority and Spanish will be a official language. Moan about that please.. it not todays "millennial's" fault. Its yours!

The progressive downward slide began with FDR, and his croneys! The Democratic party has been pushing America down ever since! Being over 40 has nothing to do with this downward progression! Not living by the Constitution, and voting for crooks has brought us to this level! In fact it's the under 40 voters, that are the progressive problem! Mostly under 40 and city raised! IMO

and the same message said in another way, using another set of words, it's all about the us turning more and more toward materialism as the standard to live by. workers including women as a part of the economy in terms of jobs and thusly out of the home. the children turned over to professional bureaucrats (teachers) to raise. the need for two jobs if we're to have a nice house, vehicles, vacations, and keeping the tax bill paid so that the police state doesn't take all of our stuff.

it is our own fault. who else could it be, but us? the social contract with the blacks gave the whites jobs in suburban america, and the blacks got free welfare as long as they agreed the black males would stay out of the house. lot's of them took the opportunity to go to prison (sarcasm here). anyways, lot's of kids growing up without a male figure. lot's of hi-jackings, house break-ins, etc now.

and besides, no need to stay on the farm and starve. move to the 'burbs and get a job. the farms can be bought up by doctors, lawyers, real estate investors, and turned into game preserves, environmental habitats, and weekend retreats from the jobs in the big cities.

it's all followed a process, and we're all willing victims. now, we want to change the social contract, do we?

I'm not sure anything "happened" other than we failed to stagnate in a state the O.P. approves of. As long as the population continues to increase, as long as the technology "improves", etc change is absolutely unavoidable. Moreover, the rate of change increases so quickly we are never able to get out of a reactive mode and into any sort of planned, guided mode of change. Y' know what? If you have any kids, you've contributed, if you use technology (like being here on the internet) you've contributed whether that contribution was deliberate and willful or whether the contribution is rooted in ignorance of consequence of the choices you've made.

It is what it is. Whining doesn't fix it.

It started earlier than that. Check into Woodrow Wilson and everybody's hero Teddy Roosevelt.

Yep.

Woodrow was a huge turning point.

So whorge1.. still biching and complaining I see. I see retirement has been good to you as well.

In 20 years, whites will be a minority and Spanish will be a official language. Moan about that please.. it not todays "millennial's" fault. Its yours!

To a large extent, he's right. We all saw what was going on and chose to bitch about it rather than getting involved and doing something. Now, it's likely too late to turn it around without violence.

Homeschooling does not (necessarily) lead to poor socialization. Separating them from the world? Do you mean separating them from the often vulgar, undisciplined classmates they'd have in a public school, and from the liberal claptrap of many of their teachers? That's exactly why we homeschooled our sons! It is my duty as a parent to protect my children from harm (physical, intellectual, and moral harm) and that's what we tried to do. My oldest son was homeschooled through high school, went to a small private liberal arts-type university as an undergraduate, did grad school in a large public university, and now is a professor in a large public university. His social skills are just fine, thank you very much. The other two were homeschooled for a few years until we allowed them to go to the Christian academy run by the church we had begun attending. They have done well in the real world too. They are all Christian conservatives that represent their generation quite well. In fact, they are far superior to what their old man was at the same age.

I realize that not all children who attend public schools are riff-raff. My sons met a lot of kids from public schools at church and through rec-league baseball and basketball and some of them were good kids with good parents. Some were not and our sons tried to be a good example for them and to reach out to them. You should realize as well that not all homeschooled kids are isolated from the real world, in fact very few are. Check this out: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/01/homeschooled-students-wel_n_1562425.html. A little casual research on your part would have dispelled this notion of homeschoolers being sub-par in any area you care to choose.

Going way back, Andrew Jackson sort of blocked for the other left leaning presidents.

Folks have been doing a crummy job of raising their kids since kids were invented.

Raise your kids right, teach them to work had and value honesty and will have no problems.

I know folks on The Fire who've home schooled their kids and done a fine job. I know other's who've turned it into a train wreck. Two of the biggest reasons people home school their kids around here (NOT saying this is the case with you) is because they are Young Earth Creationist who don't want their kids to receive a proper science education, or they are too lazy to get their kids up and to school on time. The YEC's tend to be the isolationist who don't properly prepare their kids for the modern world, and the later....well....do a great job preparing them for a life on welfare.

Extraordinary parents who home-school their kids can produce extraordinary kids. However, economic studies show these parents could sent their kids to most any school and they would still be extraordinary. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

We don't have regular cable TV, just access to several streaming services. I found it very interesting how my kids choose not to watch the disgusting crap the networks would try to feed them if the choice were left to the networks.

I guess I should be flattered by the part about the apple not falling far from the tree. smile I have no doubt my kids would have done well academically in most any school. And no doubt some kids who go through the public school system come through with their character and morals intact, and with the knowledge they need to succeed in the next phase of their life, be that college or the workforce. But why take the chance if you don't have to? Do those economic studies tell how many kids who could have become solid, or even extraordinary, citizens but have gone off the tracks because they fell in with the wrong crowd in school? I'd bet it happens a heck of a lot more often than does a YEC's kid going on welfare. With nearly 2 million kids being homeschooled, there are bound to be a few weird ones; but those kids will be weird in whatever school they are put in. Taken as a whole, homeschooled kids tend to outperform public school students in every measurable way, except perhaps athletically.

I have a daughter-in-law who teaches first grade in the public school system, and the stories I hear make me want to cry. They come from homes where there is no discipline, and the school is able to exert any control over their behavior either. They are doomed, and I would do whatever I had to in order to assure that my kids or grandkids did not have to be in the same classroom as those kids. Bottom line, there are too many people who shouldn't have custody of children, and a government-run anything is inevitably corrupted from its original purpose, however well-intended that purpose was.

You can call me what you want, I'm a pro life and 2nd amendment son of a USMC Vietnam Vet. My family has been farming in this area for 7 generations. I've been a Concrete Carpenter for 20 years and have busted my ass for everything I've ever had. If that bothers you well, good for you.

A Bernie supporter is bitching about how its hard to raise his kids proper? I've seen it all.
