Here's a picture with some Turnbull case colors on the bottom rifle. The top is a Heym/Ruger HR38, engraved with a chamois on the left and a roe deer on the right side - also has an octagon barrel.

Dang this is not healthy for me to look at.

+ one for color case or french grey with the engraving highlighted.

If the 256 Newton had been a commercial success think how many fewer cartridges we would have now? Creedmoor no, 270 win. no, 260 rem no. 257 Bob probably but maybe not.

Ya, I might end up doing the french grey route...I already have a couple of color cased No. 1's, and I am having another one built, and I think the color might hide the engraving a little bit.

I think the french grey would indeed really accent it.

The only way the 256 Newton could be cooler is if it had a rim. cool

I tried to add another full view image of both rifles, but can't seem to conquer this site's overly complicated image system.

The Heym was produced by that German gunmaker in the 1980's, They imported Ruger actions and stocked and barreled them to European tastes. They were/are very pricey and the quality is top-notch. The drawback is the European scope mounting systems used. If the rifle doesn't come with a scope set-up (mine didn't :-( ), then you're looking at an expensive and time consuming effort to get a scope in it. This one is in 30-06, so cheap to shoot anyway. And they all came with Canjar triggers as standard equipment!
I got this one in a trade with a friend who imported it a few years ago.

The custom gun is one the same friend had put together from parts by Mitch Schultz whose shop is right behind the Ruger factory. It has a non-prefix 222 barrel on a 131-prefix receiver with Circassian "30-06 Centennial edition" wood. And also had a Canjar set trigger that I recently replaced with a Kepplinger that I think fits the rifle better for size and appearance. The case colors on the receiver and lever were done by Turnbull, as previously stated.

I haven't had a chance to fire either one yet, winter being what it is here in the great white north downwind from one of the great lakes. . .
