A bit harder to find in decent shape, the M34 is a fine little piece. Mine is the M34P and is quite accurate.

Probably the least expensive route would be to get yourself an aftermarket 29” 10/22 barrel.

As of about six weeks ago, Uncle Dan's Pawn Shop in Elizabethtown KY had a CZ 452 Ultra Lux in stock. That's the one with the really long 28.6" barrel. It was NIB, and just over $400. Dunno if he still has it or not. Neat rifle, though.

A Marlin Model 81 or 881 is tough to beat. Granted, they are tube-fed, and not detachable magazine types, but they do shoot!

The out of production Savage 23AA and 19-33 (target) 22s can be fitted with the factory made No. 15 sight; which extends back and beyond the end of the breech. The guns and sights turn up on auction sites.

The one I have has such a high comb, for using a scope, I can't use the open sights in anyway that is even remotely comfortable.

I shot competition all through high school with an aperture sighted Mossberg 144. Still plenty around

Jim,
I have a couple 69a's that are extremely accurate and come with very good aperture sights. I think the sight on one is a Lyman 57ES, the other is an 80A. Both are very easy to use and surprisingly accurate, considering I don't shoot peeps well at all. One of my 69's and my 75 sporter (same action) are grooved for tip off rings, so the scopes are mounted most of the time. My favorite 69A on a good day and the right ammo will give my 52B a run for it's money at 50 yards. Haven't stretched that 69A out to 100 yet. I don't think I have over $300 in any of my 69A's (3) , or my 75 Sporter, but I'm not as picky as most and a few extra holes in the action don't bother me as long as it looks almost factory done and everything else is right.
If you're patient and haunt the pawn shops, gun shops, Cabela's used gun racks, and a few other places you should be able to find something in the 69a's or a good Remington 513T for the money you're looking to spend. It may not be a pristine model, but I'm betting it will be a shooter...

I've watched this one start at a penny, 20 bids later it's up to $392 with 2 days 20 hours left to go. Not saying it will but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it fetch over $500. A couple of other 513S models have starting bids around or above $500.

My estimate was too conservative. Final bid on this one was $608.
