I want to mount a red dot optic on my Marlin 336 .30-30. What optic do you recommendation?

It will go on the forward scope base position on the receiver. I figure a 2 MOA dot, but I'm not opposed to 3 MOA if it will work ok out to 150ish yards.

I don't need something designed to survive the assault on Fallujah, just something dependable with good battery life.

Thx,
Expat

If you need magnification for it I would suggest the Athlon Prism Scope Midas BTR PR31- APSR 31 if not the Athlon Prism Scope Midas BTR PR11 - APSR 11 or the Athlon Midas BTR RD12 would be the next thing I would suggest.

I very recently bought a Burris FFIII (3 MOA) and their mount for my M336 35 Remington but have yet to mount it. About $240 for both from Amazon.

Open style reflex sights are handy dandy, compared to tube style red dots, but be aware that water/snow/debris can obstruct the emitter. On tube style red dots the outer lenses will get wet like a conventional scope, which is less of an issue. Of course, there are covers available for each.

Image below shows my 336 with Burris FF3. Easy for a right hand shooter to turn the sight on with left thumb. An FF2 would probably be similar. Either way, battery life is good so you wouldn't necessarily need to worry about conserving the battery.

Burris FF3 is $203.86 at Amazon with 1913 mount. Have seen them as low as $180. https://www.amazon.com/Burris-30023...mp;sr=8-1&keywords=burris+fastfire+3

I would suggest the Trijicon RMR with the 1 MOD red dot. I mounted this on my Ruger mini 30 (similar ballistics to the 30-30) and target acquisition out to 300m is very quick. With the 1 MOA precision shooting at 100-200meters is possible. The RMR has many brightness settings to help find the right one when shooting on snow or at low light conditions.

Having tried a prism scope on a 1894 Marlin, I could not get enough eye relief to use it. I tired a Vortex 3x not the one above and for giggles a Burris 5x. Neither worked for me. I don’t know this for a fact but I also think I have a short neck or shoulder rifles differently than others because most of my scopes are mounted a rearward as I can get them.
