My daughter wants some binoculars for Christmas. They will be used for personal use, hunting and field trips/Labs in college for viewing wildlife. She wants something small so I am thinking 8X32. What is the best options for around $300? Thanks.

an easy answer is the terra 8x32....lifetime warranty...v-good optics....good build quality....sure you can dig through all the off brand crap and maybe find a pair slightly better in one area or another....but with the Zeiss Terra you get the whole package with a respected and long lived company that will be there if you need them........

Good morning,
We have one left of the Minox BL 8x33 HD #62047, Made in Germany we can offer you on a " 24hourcampfire member" Christmas deal for $299.99. I think you'll find this a better binocular than the Chinese Terra ED

Personally I prefer the Zeiss.

My sub $300 picks would be:

Leupold Mojave 8x32
Cabelas Pro Guide 8x32 (same as above)
Sightron Blue Sky 8x32
Carson ED 8x32

I would be fine running any of the above though my preference is a 42mm objective. These days most 8x42 roofs are pretty compact so I'd trade the(marginal) increase in bulk for a larger exit pupil.

I have the Mojave BX-3 8x42 and liked them so much that I bought the Cabela's Guide 8x32 when they went on closeout. The BX-3s were recently discontinued, so you may find them on steep discounts. The BX-4 is the "HD" version. I didn't prefer them enough to spend the extra money, but they were great. I liked the BX-3s a lot more than the Diamondbacks I was omparing them against. I also really like the center adjustments vs the standard on the right eyepiece.

My 32mm Mojave's have a larger FOV than my 42mm Mojave's. I cannot tell a significant difference with definition at last light. The 42s have a much better eye relief. Doing things over again, I'd probably skip the 42s and just get 32s. I have some 10x42 Alpen Wings that I use when I'm planning on having them on a tripod.

As to the thread title, the second binocular has yet to be decided upon.

Under $300.00 look at the Athlon Argos 8x34 Binocular which would be an excellent choice and we are still including the Athlon Binocular Harness Case System with purchase at no charge for forum members through Christmas smile
Great binocular I think you'd love

Good point! This would be a good place to point out that my son was looking online for a basketball hoop with suction cups to stick up on the bathtub wall for the 1-year-old to play with. He found one that said, "Lots of fun for all kids with three balls". I believe that some reordering of the words or addition of punctuation would have added to the clarity.
