Finally got out yesterday to shoot new marlin 45 colt. Swabbed the bore and good to go. Attempted to lever the first round in and bam, jam. Bullet was stuck good. Couldn't get it out, so back to the keep for tools. Got it out and tried again. Another jam. Couldn't' get this one out, so packed up and went home. After dropping the lever, the remains eight bullets flew out of the magazine tube. I know enough to be scary as far as gunsmithing goes but that is not supposed to happen. Sent an email to Marlin. Waiting to hear back from them. Any ideas?

New gun or used? Before you take it apart I would check to make sure the loading gate screw is tight. Otherwise the link above is a good one.

What length is the cartridge? What bullet style?

I have to keep length under 1.60" to cycle in mine. I've heard of others having problems feeding SWC's with a sharp shoulder but I haven't seen that issue personally.
