Hit or miss whether or not it will be a good shooter, but overall a great rifle.

Just spend a few extra bucks and get the Rem 5R First Gen.....It comes with a better Stock and will be a Tack Driver.and resale will be much better.....

I was debating the Long range in 300 win Mag and picked up the 1st gen 5R with Treaded Barrel....With the rebate it was about the same price as the Long range...

I like my 700 long range in 30-06. worth what I paid. I have senderos in 7mm and 6.5-284 with Krieger barrels that shoot better. the 30-06 is going in soon too.

I have the 5R in 300 Win mag. Very accurate, mine is not threaded. I shoot the 168 Barnes with Reloader 22. Rifle is heavy, little recoil? Green stock.

This. If you're set on the Long Range buy one used-they turn up a lot. The one I've been around a lot this year will not shoot well with anything that has been tried in it. I am a huge Remington fan but I think they did not get this one right.

What makes the 5r a better Rifle? Is it the barrel, stock ? What type of material is stock made from? Don't mind spending more but I expect more for my money. What are the differences in the LR barrel and the 5R barrel?

I have two Mil Spec 5R Remingtons I bought new several months ago, a .308 and a .300 Winchester Mag. I haven't worked with that many bullets, but I've fired a few five-shot groups in the 5/8" range at 100 yards using the 168 Sierra Match King. I've used H4895 in the .308 and H4831 or the short cut version in the .300. These are heavy rifles; with "light" 30mm scopes, total weight is about 10 1/2 lbs.

I won't get into a discussion on the triggers. I think everyone knows about that.

The Remington 7 mag long range are very, very accurate rifles. Our family beds them, then put on a good trigger, and Gentry muzzle break, then shoot bug holes with a variety of loads.

The 5R Remington are very nice, not a stalking rifle, but fine in a stand.

Most shoot just fine. You might look at the Bergara HMR also.

7mmRM the perfect North American cartridge!
