In all my years of predator hunting and trapping I've never had a hide tanned but I caught a pretty bland little cat the other day that won't fetch very much so I'm thinking about getting it tanned but I don't know where to send it.

Who do you use/like?

Thanks
Charlie

I would avoid these idiots at all cost. They do none of their own tanning.

I have only used Moyles and have had nothing but good experiences with them. There is also Furs for Fun and Tubari. Have heard good things about them but haven't used them personally.

funny thing about huntsmans pretty pelts is, only the 'coons are (home)tanned. The rest of them are raw furs just a-hanging on the wall. If they go bad, or the bugs get to them, I just go out and get another....heck with paying someone to tan them....grin

That’s what I did. Probably not cost wise though.

I have only used Moyles, out of Heyburn Idaho.

Nothing but positive experiences with them.

I don't know why someone would call someone else an "idiot" because they don't tan their own furs. I have visited USA FOXX in Duluth Minnesota many times, have had furs tanned through them, and had a beaver coat made for my wife there. I have also had many other furs tanned through them.

The furs that I have had tanned through USA FOXX have always been superbly done. And why wouldn't they be? USA FOXX is a manufacturer of fur coats and hats and gloves and fur accessories. In order to do that they have to work with first class tanneries so they can attract customers that have trapped or hunted their own furs.

Believe me, the people that work at USA FOXX are not idiots. Far from it..

I sent them beaver hides to have a hat made and a beaver bear made. The hides I sent were very dark, nearly black. When I got my stuff back the hides they used were very red. Clearly not the same hides I sent them. I am not the only person in Alaska that has had this experience with them.

Moyles is always recommeded - I remember thinking the price was cheaper than I would have guessed .

What kind of care does a tanned fur need to make it last .

Can you just keep it inside a house and be OK ?

Thanks , planning on making a fur bedspread , thinking I'll use anything from squirrel to bobcat . Nothing fancy or symmetrical not trying to make a work of art or show I'm a great craftsman .

I've got hides hanging in the house that I shot back in high school that Moyles tanned.

Like anything else, keep them out of direct and intense sunlight, dust them as often as anything else and they'll be just fine for however long you have it.
