We were browsing the seafood case and bought a chunk of Escolar(aka Walu, Walu-Walu, Waloo). Cooked it on the grill, and it was fantastic! Rich, buttery, great flavor. Thought we'd found our new favorite fish. It hit my wife first, and then me later. We both had(and still have this morning) the unique ability to poop through a screen door. Lovely. Did a little research, and see that Escolar is also known as "Ex-Lax Fish". It's banned for sale in Japan and Italy, and a number of countries require a warning label. Due to its diet, the fish is rich in esters that are similar to castor or mineral oil. First and last time eating the stuff for us!

Where did you buy it? I don't recall having seen it here locally but I'll definitely be passing up the opportunity to buy it if I see it.

You probably have eaten it in sashimi. In small doses it is good and not inclined to "liberate" you like that. It is available in most sushi joints here in Anchorage. The folks at Sagaya's should have warned you.
As Sashimi it is a very soft fish with almost no texture but sweet and buttery.
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.
