HI! do I need a fishing licence to go cast net fishing in Florida? I will be there in March visiting friends there and in Alabama. I am told that, on occasion the mullet go into fresh water as well. Thanks, Mel

Absolutely..After all, you are fishing. But a non resident license is only about $30 and the bays are often full of mullet.

Thanks OMike and jdollar, I will look for a bait shop and buy a non resident license, they can probably recommend where to go too. Mel

Nothing like WAY too many baseball bat mullet in a cast net to seriously fugg up your shoulder.

If you're good enough or able enough to throw an 8' cast net, you've got a good shot at putting together a decent catch. If you can find a few good spots where you're throwing from an elevated position, even better. Bridges, swawalls, sidewalks. Wading and walking the beach works too, though.

yep you need either a 3 or 7 day permit.
I'm here in the homosassa/crystal river area of florida and mullet are routinely caught by netting or snagging
the redfish, trout, and mangrove snapper are plentiful and easy to catch from shore.
There are many fishing piers free to the public where you can do this
