I do my trapping back in NY.
Our regs concerning body grips on land and in conjunction to baited cubbys gives us a few options.
I am looking at using 10" irrigation pipe (lightweight thin wall pvc) for my cubbys. I can either close the 10" opening down to 6" and only have to set my trap 4" back from the entrance, or I can keep it at it's full 10" but must then recess my trap (160/220) back an intire 18" from the entrance.
I know that there is a higher percentage of refusals with the little 6" entrance over the 10" entrance, but I don't know how well they will commit to going the extra 18" in order to fire the trap in the set having the full 10" entrance.
How would you set up.?

I'd go short, anything that will stick its head in a 160 will take a 6" hole. Going in a foot and a half is asking a bit much.
Most of my cubby/body-grip experience is with marten/Fisher boxes. The fishers seem to be content dieing in little 120s.
Life begins at 40. Recoil begins at "Over 40" Coincidence? I don't think so.

Or switch over to the 5 X 5 CTM's, and the cubbies do not have to be modified. While I have not used them, I know many folks that do on both Fisher, and Coon with excellent results on both. Like stated before, for Fisher especially pre-baiting is very important. We trap up in Tug Hill, and I have seen the difference pre-baiting can make.
