Sorry to hear about your uncle, you have my deepest condolences Roy.

I guess I started to realize my mortality when my first child was born and the scope of that responsibility sunk in.

It's lingered throughout my life. Never far away with losing this family member or close friend, or even wife...

Things kinda hit home somewhere between my 3rd and 4th heart attack a few years back, though.

Strangely enough, I wasn't afraid of dying.

Yeah....about when my first child was born.

Then I got into the Emergency Services and got to be around a bunch of dead people.......but one call in particular stands out.

I will be 35 next month......and using my rudimentary math skills.....puts me at half way to 70.

That was a bummer!

35 ain't no bummer,.....45 ain't even a bummer.

The bummer stage begins when you have to crawl up the wall to get your back straight when you get out of bed in the morning. For me that was about 60.

You boys always have one that stands out don't ya.

For a guy I know it was a suicide call, the guy had taken a circular saw taped the switch on, secured it in a vise upside down and put his neck into it. That man wanted to make a statement!

When you're young the battle is way off in the distance. Then one day you're in the middle of the minefield asking yourself when you got here.

Spent my 50th birthday standing by my daughters casket, month later I was in the ER with a heart attack. Figured out from there what really mattered in life and what sure as hell didn't.

Haha! 140? I got lots of time!

My second probationary Ambulance run was for a car wreck that ended up leaving two dead and one paralyzed below the chest.

I remember feeling sad for the people.

We were zipping up the last dead one in a bag and I heard a baby crying in the waiting room.

I then realized I had just zipped that baby's mother into a black plastic bag.

Made take stock in my life decisions.

He was trying to tell me where something was at....I pretended to understand and He Grinned real big....I sure wish I knew what he was trying to tell me!!!!!!!

for me it was when I woke up in the hospital after my massive heart attack. That experience made me much more aware of what and where I was.
