I hope trump holds the line. A shut down is not a big deal. Essential services will keep working. Makes one wonder about non essential services.

Holding America's budget and America's federal employees hostage over the rights of people who are here illegally. Brilliant. Agreed. Really is something to watch.

Term limits and a Balanced Budget Amendment...aren't these on Trumps to do list? Cut DACA and any aid programs to illegals and foreign aid to hostile countries. Then ram it through both houses of congress. Tired of this swamp critter collusion.

I'm one of those employees, but my work is critical....so no vacation for this guy. I am "non-essential." If you you think paying people to stay home with our tax dollars is ok you're part of the problem.. I'd rather earn my money, but there's nothing I can do about it if they shut the government down then pay me anyway.

Repubs are only "In charge" on simple majority votes, doesn't an extension take more than 50%? That also assumes all repubs hold the line

Considering that the bulk of the power for the country comes from the Corp and bureau of rec.....I'd want those guys working. Or have lots of wood stockpiled. Are you delusional or just kidding? Jerry

GOP owns the House, Senate, and the White House. A shutdown is entirely in their hands, unlike previous shutdowns. Were the other shutdowns the dems fault? A careful reading of my post would infer that I feel that the dems shoulder some blame. If the GOP wants to avert a shutdown they have all the votes they need, the question is can they govern.

How many of you "shut it downers" have parents or grandparents that live on SS? Ask them how they feel about shutting it down but maybe they can come live with you. I am all for some changes but cutting off peoples way of life is not the way. Like has been said maybe cutoff all of Congress paychecks thru the rest of their term!!!!!

A shutdown needs to happen for the country to move forward with MAGA. There’s no way the Democrats and the republican squishes want to run on choosing illegal aliens over grandmas SS check and the service members. Trump needs to stand firm along with the true conservatives and let the democrats march off the political cliff. Republicans just need to keep offering a clean budget extension ( a political disgrace in itself) and let the democrats fall on their swords.

those clowns in washington all need to get sent home, leaving only Trump and his sincere efforts to MAGA. the repubs are showing they're not our friends. the demo's never were our friends, and the red suited and blue suited clowns are colluding with each other it seems.
extending expenditures of the federal govt, the most powerful entity the world has ever seen, for a period of a month or something? get real. no wonder the piss-ant nations are trying to gang up, and attack.
why don't we have at least a five year Master Plan? the congress would rubber stamp the MAGA plan, and go home to drink toddies, and watch porn.
we're becoming the laughing stock of the civilized world, and it's all because the repubs can't or won't stand up to the national socialists.
the national socialists (demos) are attempting to bring enough illegal immigrants ashore to topple the conservative aspects of the American enterprise.
the clowns need to stand down if all they can do is a one month budget. this is turning into a national disgrace of historic proportions.

I totally disagree. oh, it's not because of our President, for whom i voted. it's because the congress composed of both demo's and pubs can't manage to pass a FEDERAL budget except for a mere month or two. it projects weakness. why not an annual budget, why not a five year budget projection, even 10 year if they're feeling particularly feisty. we're not projecting power as country, but our President is leading. i hope he will not be denied.

When i was recovering from my back surgery in 2014 I was in a good will and was checking out, the lady in front of me was complaining about the previous govt. shut down and said that it was very inconsiderate of the politicians to shut down the .gov because then she didn't get her checks.
I couldn't hold my tongue, I said "you wouldn't have to worry about it if you went out and got a damn job, then you wouldn't have to wait for your check". She turned around and looked at me like I had three eyes!

The biggest risk of the shutdown is the people of this country will realize how little use our running government is.

I am all for some changes but cutting off peoples way of life is not the way. Like has been said maybe cutoff all of Congress paychecks thru the rest of their term!!!!! Social Security payments (once enrolled) are automatic and done by a computer. If government offices are closed, then new enrollments will be delayed. The Passport Office will close so any emergency passports can't be issued), as well as Department of Agriculture ane Interior facilities. The Control for Disease Control (CDC) and NIH will likewise close so much research will be suspended. ETC., ETC.
