I have a 338 Lapua which was custom built for a relative by a really good gunsmith. The relative passed before developing a load. I inherited the rifle with a lot of bullets, powder and primers. I have RL 22, 25, 26, 33, Retumbo, H1000 and an number of others. I have Barnes TSX 225, 250, LRX 265's, Nosler Partition 210's, Sierra SPBT 250's.

Can anyone help me with some general idea of where to start to get a good group at 200 yards. Will test it out from there to longer distances.

Any help would be appreciated.

Only thing i could find in the record book is this:RL-25 we started around 94.0 grains and did not get above97.0

H-1000 we did 96.0 but not over 101.0
This was with a 225 grain bullet.
Speed varied from 2900+- to 3000 +-.

With a 250 grain RL-25 92.0 to 96.0 grains

H-1000 94.0 to 99.0 grains.

They seemed to do better with a change of seating depth but it was not wrote down.

It is a fun set up to shoot i just wished it did not have that muzzle brake.

Every rifle is its own animal, but 95 - 97 gr of H1000 with a 225 TTSX is a sweet spot for mine. Lapua brass and F215.

Velocity is 3050 - 3100 fps in a 26" 1:10" with ambient temps in the 60's as a reference point and 0.003" of neck tension.

That is a less than max load, but accurate and pleasant to shoot.

My other TTSX loads all show best accuracy a bit below max.

Either the H1000 or Retumbo should provide good results with the Barnes 250 and 265.

210 Partitions never did anything worth fooling with in my 338 Lapuas, much prefer the Barnes 225 for a lighter bullet.

Start with the H1000 and 225 Barnes. It is a good combo with lots of versatility.

Here is a link to Barnes' data.

Those Sierras and H1000 worked well for me. 1/2” 5-shot groups.
