I inherited this from my Grandfather a year or so ago when he passed away. My original intent was to hang it on the wall, but there's no place to do so in our current home and I really believe Grandpa would rather have me sell it and buy something useful than hang on to it, in fact he tried to sell it himself on more than one occasion.

What I know about the gun:
Remington Model 1889
10 gauge
Damascus steel barrels, 2 7/8" chambers. The bores are in good shape, with very minor pitting in just a few areas. I measure these barrels at 30" bore to breach.

The gun locks up tight. The wood is in good condition, it shows use but there are no gouges or cracks.

The rest is a bit of a mystery to me. I think it's a grade 3 based on the "3" stamped on the receiver next to the serial number and think I read somewhere that grades 1 and 2 did not have damascus steel barrels.

The bottom of the stock forepiece reads "240696" and "449" as shown in the pictures. The barrels and receiver also have this same number stamped into them, which I'm assuming is the serial number. In addition to the serial number the barrels have several other marks some of which I'm guessing indicate choke constriction and length and the others are probably proof marks.

Any help regarding more specifically what I have and its value is greatly appreciated.
