For a winter project, I picked up a Tikka3x and am looking for suggestions on load development for hunting mediums game. I’ve got RL 22, IMR4350, MRP, H4831, H1000 and IMR7828 on hand (still waiting for delivery of RL 26 & 33). Bullets on hand include 130 and 140 Accubonds and Partitions, and 130 Interlocks. Any suggestions on COL for the accubonds? Have you found any benefit accuracy/velocity wise with a crimp? Is there a hunting bullet I haven’t mention you’ve achieved great accuracy with? This joins a 7mm STW, 300 Wby, and 340 Wby for hunting at range so I’m not seeking a do it all rifle/load.

My 270 WSM Featherweight shoots tiny groups with 130gr Ballistic Tips and Rl-17, although neither are on your list. The Featherweight has a long throat and my loads are well over SAAMI spec length by quite a bit, but accuracy was much poorer at the listed max..

Scott, what velocity are you shooting the BT, and have they proven too explosive on game at close range? I’m certain they’ll perform well at distance.

Try the 140 Accubonds and IMR 4350. Works great in the Four I load for.

Winchester 70 270WSM a friend purchased, 24" Bbl. We worked up a load intended for elk. It consisted of the Barnes 130gr TSX & Western Magnum powder, CCI LR mag primers & Win brass. The bullet was seated so as to be .050 off the lands. It chronographed at 3304FPS. That rifle has now accounted for three elk. Every bullet completely penetrated thru the elk. None recovered. Three shots three elk. Western list 75 grs of this powder for the 130gr bullet. If you use this bullet depending on the rifle best accuracy could be any where from .020 to .070 off the lands. Start a few grains low & work up.

I'm getting 3200+ FPS. It just happens that is the same I get from factory ammo. The only animal I have killed with that load was a small whitetail at 150 yards. In one side of the ribs, out the other. Everything in between was scrambled. I've got a box of 130gr Accubonds to try, but I have no doubt that it will work just as well. My experience with the Accubonds in other calibers is that the Accubond will destroy less meat that the Ballistic Tips if the shoulders were hit.

Yep, a great combination. Mine shoots 140 Game Kings over IMR-4350 very well also.

Indeed. My Sako A7 Tecomate likes 130g NAB's over Nosler's max listed charge. Shoots right at 0.5" at 100yds. My chrony battery was dead so I have to go back to the range sometime to determine the actual velocity. Nosler says 3389 fps so I went with an assumed 3000 fps and plugged that into my ballistics calculator app and zero'ed if for 300 yds. My range check proved to be dang close so I went with it. Took two good bucks at 325 and 402 yds respectively. Both complete pass thrus. Picked up a Tikka T3 in .270 WSM as a back up and that's the load I'll start development with.

130 gr accubond R17, CCI 250. Tiny holes at 100. 3200 fps 22" barrel. Now R17 is fairly temp sensitive. So is 4350. Have been thinking about trying the new R16. This load has killed a 300# muley no problem. Love the accubonds.

I am shooting 140 Accubonds and Interbonds with 69 grains of R 25 and now R26 too. Both get around 3200 fps and have been excellent for Deer and Hogs. I have not used this combo for larger game but would not hesitate to do so.

Been reloading 140gr AB's in my 270WSM's (two in T3 LS models / 1 in a Sako m75ss) since 2005 with Retumbo. GREAT SHOOTERS !!! Elk moose bears deer and the odd wolf and coyote ...

I bought a Winchester Model 70 laminated classic back in 2002 when the 270WSM first appeared on the market. I've primarily used 140gn Nosler Accubonds and H1000. It's an accurate combination that kills well.

Thanks for your responses. For those shooting accubonds, how far off the lands is optimal?

Maybe longer than you think.
