The Toyota’s, do they suffer from the rotting frames that hit the trucks?

I'm thinking about replacing my 05 Pilot.I had a 03 Outback before the pilot. I use the car as a daily driver, usually 7 miles to the grocery store, 22 miles to the gun club, pick up horse feed. I have a 15 3500 RAM Dually that I use to pull my 5th wheel to Skeet shoots, also have a 95 K3500 Chevy farm truck.
Want 4 wheel drive just to take a quick trip to the pasture, a little security on a muddy dirt road, pull up a wet muddy slope. No serious off road. Need inside storage for groceries, horse feed, hauling gear to one day Skeet shoots, family vacation. I have twin 11 year old daughters. A big passenger load would be 3 adults and the girls, that's what we had on a recent ski trip.
What are some of the pluses and minuses of the three? Looking at probably 08-11 model year in any of the three. Has Subaru solved the head gasket issues by 08-11? Does Honda have a more real 4x4 as compared to the low speed only on my 05? Is the timing chain vs belt a plus for the $ Runner? What are some of your thoughts on the three? We have a 09 Pilot. It's a great vehicle. Mileage is decent around town and highway is what you'd expect. We have 6 kids between us so....8 in the vehicle. It holds 8 with a small amount of room behind the 3rd seat. If the seat is folded forward, there is a pretty good amount of room there. It's always hauling sporting equipment of some kind. It also tows my 16.5' boat and a 4-wheeler trailer loaded with 2 wheelers just fine. It has plenty of power, 4wd works well in snow. That said, I'd take a 4-runner over the pilot every time.
Camp is where you make it.

Having a Pilot and a 4 Runner.. albeit an older model..
The 4 Runner has a better 4WD system on the newer models... but have less room that a Pilot does...
I prefer the Pilot for a lot of daily driver stuff...
Seafire makes a good point. The Pilot will ride like you expect your SUV to ride. The 4-runner, especially the newer ones will ride like a truck. The newer pilot is not like ours. It's not as boxy and has a bit more room. It's a solid, safe vehicle though. I did have a 2007 4-runner as well. It was a great rig but it is smaller for passengers.
Camp is where you make it.

That looks like a good price if it doesn't need a lot of work to bring it up to specs. Brakes? Engine and drive train fluid change?

Seems you're good to go vehicle wise right now! NYH1.

Is it normal to burn a qt of oil every 1000 miles? When it's their time of the month.

The Toyota for sure, I have a 1988, 2000 and 2017 4 Runners and have had very little trouble other than general upkeep. The wife has had 2 Honda Pilots a 2005 and now has a 2012, the 05 was pretty good the 2012 is junk as far as I am concerned and I will never buy another one if I have a say so. Don't know much about the Subaru other than they are a Yuppie vehicle.

I'm on the way home from 10 days of hunting in Idaho and Montana w/ lots of miles on snowy and icy roads. My 2018 TRD Offroad 4WD performed flawlessly whether in low range 4wd w/ the rear diff locked or at 80 mph on the freeway. This is 4Runner # 4 and they have all been great, very dependable vehicles that fulfill all my needs and wants. For me nothing else comes close.

That said, I'd take a 4-runner over the pilot every time. Mrs Bumpo has a '09 Pilot, bot new. Just turned 100K, has been excellent in all categories. Michelin LTX's bring it up our steep driveway in snow and ice 4-5 mos of the year. Very comfortable to drive w/ leather pkg for a 6' 2" 200# guy, plenty of leg room. Does not eat tires or burn oil. No major problems or failures, whatsoever. Couple of bird dog crates fit in the back easy. Would not take into deep snow or mud but have a F150 for the hardcore 4WD stuff. NB

I don't know what the question is, but the answer is Toyota.

Do the 4Runners have any inherent problems like the head gaskets on a Subaru? I noticed 08,09 are one generation and 10 and 11 are the next. Considering similar mileage and condition do I want one or the other or does it matter?

The only true cost of a vehicle is depreciation plus maintenance ; the initial purchase price is irrelevant, Toyota products; hands down

The Toyota’s, do they suffer from the rotting frames that hit the trucks? Shhh...the Toyota fans don't like it when you point out the frame has a tendency to rust completely through.

Subaru has a reputation for advertising to the queers but that doesn't make it a bad car. It's a darn good one. They'll hold up well over 200k. I have pulled several out of bad sand roads with my old 4Runner
