It's going to be hard for me not to buy the Lipsey/Ruger .475 Linebaugh/.480 Ruger. Being able to see the wood first would either accelerate or postpone that purchase.

Ive seen one No. 1AH 6.5 Creed auctioned off on GB, which was listed as a 2018 rifle. Havent seen any other 2018s yet.

The #1AH in 6.5 Creedmoor is interesting as is the 30-30. I have a #1B in the Creedmmor and with it's 28 inch barrel it's wickedly accurate but it's also heavy, to heavy for this fat old man to be lugging around. Maybe I should send it down the road in favor of the #1AH.

i have Ruger no.1`s that shoot well and some I had to do work on to make them shoot well,being able to understand reloading for some guns is helpful too. I myself prefer Ruger no 1`s always. I have some custom barrels on some also that shoot extremely well a long ways out too.

I could easily shift my love from the 1KA .30-30 to the 1AH 6.5Creed.

Either would be really fabulous. Actually, the 6.5 with 100Ballistics could easily be better in the field ... or even a .25-'06 in the 1AH; if a fella could find one with superb wood.

So, given the bucks$$$$$, how is the wood? Same, or is one better, on the average?

Or do we need to shop our LGS and other sources and take our chances?

I think finding nice wood on a current production #1 is going to be extremely difficult. My Creedmoor looks like they used a telephone pole for the wood. If I keep the rifle it will be restocked, it's the only way to get a decent piece of wood.

Look at the wood before you buy. That almost invariably means GB or some such place. Finding #1's at your local gunstore is tough to do, and if you are waiting on one to come through there, you will probably have a long wait. I have only bought a few #1's without seeing them, and then only because they were NIB and at a ridiculously low price, so nice lumber would only have been a bonus. I have a good number of newer ones that have excellent wood, but I was picky and looked at them first. Good luck.

I agree. The 28" barrel is too long, and the rifle a touch too heavy. I had mine cut back to 650mm (25.6"). However, I then had it threaded for a suppressor. :-) Threading is not something I think I could reasonably do with the 1A, but I most-prefer the Alexander Henry forend on the No.1 rifle, and while I've no particular intention to use such a gun with the irons, I prefer to have them there for whatever reason.
