I raised some gourds shaped like that one time. Made bird houses from them, and I don't think a bird ever used one. I also raised some "dipper gourds" but they turned out way too big for a drinking dipper. Lots of old timers when I was a kid had a water bucket and a gourd dipper in their house. miles
You da man Bob!! I got nothin' worthy of this thread. The loading blocks I have, I made out of a nylon. I also have a powder horn I bought 40 years ago, but it's nothing but a hollow cow horn with a wood plug.

That's ok Tom! Here's some of the assorted accoutrements all piled up for my .62 Jäger, "Liebchen".
Made most all of the stuff. Except I didnt make the tow worm, ball puller, small turnscrew, trade awl. But I enjoy sewing up them leather rifle shot bags and fabricating the stuff out of wood, leather and antler. Keeps me occupied and off the streets.
I devised the simple leather pouch, bottom right, for the carry of greased patch strips. I just pre lube em and fold em up. Fits nicely in pouch.

I grew some and used them for bird feeders and one birdhouse. The squirrels tore the feeders apart to get at the seeds quicker. I cut a proper-sized hole in the birdhouse and had a wren raise a brood in it last summer. The flowers on the gourd plants are really something to see.

Those little lead pieces for clamping flints in the jaws or pre-weighed chunks for casting balls?

Well you can use em for that Pappy and I have done just that. IMHO better than a piece of leather. I hammer em out a lot flatter and thinner. Like this!
But that is simply sheet lead that has a hole punched in It and strung up for later to be cast for shot. I did it as kind of an example of a trade item back whe I did presentations and such. Otherwords a reloading kit, so to speak.
As a side note, When doing volunteer archaeology work at the Presidio Los Adaes site at Robeline Louisiana, we found lots of spilt lead and cut off sprues.

Pretty dang cool Jeff! Yes. I do same for most part. Most all my plunder is out in my shop hanging on the wall. However running out of room, all my Jäger rifles are in a standing floor rack in my bedroom.
What kind of rifles do you have?

I still have a couple of those somewhere I bought when I was flintin', as well as some nice English shipwreck flints. I was watching the "Sharpe's Rifles" series about that time and reading the books too. Always felt kinda rich with all those flints, since apparently the average soldier only got one issued to him, and could be flogged for losing it, largely because it was assumed that it had been sold.
So, i was bored today. Been out in shop and sewed up a leather pocket for my eatin' gear. Will go in my haversack. The knife and fork I found in a junk shop and put antler handles on 'em. The spoon is repro 18th century pewter. Keep em from rattlin' around with all my kit.
Kinda muzzleloading related.

She is a Chief's Grade gun from North Star West. 20 ga, / 62 cal. I've won a few trade gun matches with it and taken several jackrabbits and turkey.
Great piece, PDS!!!

Here's a pic of the waxed haversack I've been monkeying around with lately. I hand sewed it out of heavy linen, ticking liner, and leather.

Very nice Bob. Somewhere around this place I have a similar set of "silverware". I also have a couple of homemade flint strikers.

Sorry lost track of the thread. The top one is a 54 smooth rifle, Sitting Fox kit. 28 gauge let's me shoot patched round ball, as well as shot. The lower one started as a stock. I built the rifle from there from parts. 50 cal, slow twist round ball gun. Out of the pic is my dad's 80's vintage Hatfield 45 cal flinter.
Heck Jeff! I can’t keep up with much anymore either! Nice of you to make the comback and ressurrect this thread. I got industrous other day and put together this shelf/rack arrangement for several of my Jäger rifle bags/horns!

Tell me about the long gun, please? I'm developing an interest in flintlocks .. trying to fight it and losing. Must be old age, termites in the brain, or something, but once it itches, it's gotta be scratched. ... and that one looks good other than being other-handed.

Dunno if Longhunter visits her much anymore, but that gun you are asking about looks like his LH French Fusil de Chasse, a smoothbore. I know he’s posted lots of sucessful turkey hunt pics with it. Mebbe he’ll be along soon.
