Gentlemen,
I plan to host Savage Fest 2018 here in Sauk City, WI.
It will be very similar to Savage Fest 2014, facility, hotel, etc.
The calendar is slipping away and so facility reservations are somewhat limited, but I managed to reserve August 17 & 18.
I also reserved a block of rooms at the hotel.
Some preliminary information is below and there will be more to follow.
Hope to see you all there.

What: Savage Fest 2018
When: Aug. 17 & 18
Where: Sauk City, WI

Facility: The Sauk Prairie Recreation Center Gym (same as Savage Fest 2014)
Hotel: The Cedarberry Inn (same as Savage Fest 2014)

Details:
1)For Savage Collector Forum members and guests.
2)Savage Fest 2018 is a private show and is closed to the public.
3)Savage Fest 2018 is a not for profit no alcohol affair. There is no admission fee, however donations are encouraged to help defray rental expenses, etc.
4)Pre-registration is required. No walk-ins will be admitted.
5)To register PM Rick99 with number of attendees w/names and tables requested if any. Name tags will be supplied at check in.
6)Setup be will Friday morning, time TBD. Over night security will be provided Friday and Saturday nights. Tear down Sunday a.m.
7)Food, drink & snacks will be available throughout with a Saturday night pot luck meal.
8)A photo booth will be provided for anyone writing a book. PM David Royal your intentions for planning purposes.
9)PM Southern WI Savage if you will be available for setup, tear down, security, food, drink & door prize donations. Or any questions in general.

Hah! You beat me to it! I've been scrambling to set up a Fest in Western Maryland, but kept getting shot down by the venues. I had one more to try next week, but I guess that's a moot point now. It's only fair to hold the Fest alternatively between east and west anyway.

Northern Wisconsin is a little too far for me to drive with a pile of guns in the car. I'm not the road warrior I used to be. Perhaps if I can afford it I'll investigate flying- there are a bunch of guys "out yonder" who I would dearly love to meet.

Perhaps if the venue I'm checking out next Wednesday night pans out, I'll host a mini-fest this summer to accomodate the East coast guys and the Savage 99 folks on Facebook, kind of what Joe Brady did in Pennsylvania last summer. It's the Izaac Walton League chapter's club house that I belong to outside of Hagerstown, MD. The venue has superb shooting ranges that would allow us to exercise some rifles and pistols when sitting around jawing gets boring! I have to confront the board of directors at the monthly meeting.

Wisconsin Fest: Not sure if I can make the Fest in August, that's a bad weekend for me. I'll try, but likely won't know until close to the date. I'll try to swing it tho.

gnoahhh, don't worry about dragging guns out if that's a hassle. Just find some guys to carpool with and get out there if you can.

And summer is pretty open for me, so definitely let us know if there's a get together somewhere in the East. Wife's best friend lives in Connecticut, so could swing up north afterwards and keep the better half happy. If your Isaak Walton is anything like mine, you'll have hassles getting non-members access to the ranges. They are sticklers here about ensuring that everybody using it has gone through their safety/protocal training, or is being monitored full time by a member who has.

The range at our Ike chapter is open to non-trained outsiders as long as they are accompanied by a member (all of whom have gone through the safety training as a condition for membership). I figured if we meet there I'll have a couple buddies make themselves available for range use if desired. 20-point covered 50 yard rimfire and centerfire range, un-covered 100 and 200 yard centerfire, and a shooting house for 25 and 50 yard pistol, plus we can shoot .22's at 50 feet inside the clubhouse after hours if we wish.

I've got in-laws over the border on the IL side. Might fly up there and drive up for the fest. Never been to Savage fest before, but I don't come across many 99's down here so I never get to see any in person.

There'll be smoked Lake Trout at Sauk City (which is in SOUTHERN Wisconsin). Maybe some other Lake superior delicacies if we get out enough times. Saxon Harbor is scheduled to be closed ALL summer to fix July 2017 storm damage that washed most of harbor out into the big pond! Still looking for 1 car and couple boats. We will be fishing out of Black River Harbor in U.P. which is also scheduled for some harbor damage repair (ramp closed for ???). Maybe I'll save several Cornish cross chickens we can barbecue!

Don't have to bring 99's if that's the stopping point. Just show up to look, talk and BS.

--Reminder--

1) Mark your calendar for Aug 17 & 18 for Savage Fest in Sauk City, Wisconsin.
2) PM Rick 99 number/names of attendees, number of tables and request hotel information.
3) PM myself for any questions. I also have additional hotel rooms lined up if the other is filled.
4) PM WYO1895 (David Royal) if interested in photographing your engraved rifle/pistol or scanning of catalog covers for the next book. Possibly others items of interest as well.

Hope to see you there! smile

Just put several lake trout from today's Lake Superior fishing trip in freezer for the Fest! Great day on big pond. Caught more then the limit, so had to toss some back. Lakers, 24" brown, 1 steelhead and all the coho (small) you wanted. Tomorrow Saxon Harbor closes for season for reconstruction. 2 barges arrived today from near Green Bay on Lake Michigan. So big they used their crane to load smaller tug onto 1 barge and used bigger tug to push the works for 3 days! There is still missing car and speed boat that they expect the dredging to find?

I would like one table, for Saturday only. Will there be door prizes? If so, I can bring some old Shooter's Bibles, either for prizes or to give for contributions to defray the expenses of the Fest.

Also, I have a nearly complete set of American Rifleman from 1928 on, if someone is coming who would be interested. I don't really want to ship them, but if someone at the Fest has a way of taking them home. PM me, and we can work something out.

All:

I just realized that after I move into our new home in two weeks, I will only be about 4 hours drive away from this event. I think this year is going to be a go.

Will contact tomorrow about a table.

Pulling up and moving to be closer to Savage Fest is a little drastic, but, whatever works for ya. grin
Guessing down state? Although Escanaba area would be great for outdoor recreation.

I spent a couple summers up in Escanaba. I'm very jealous! Beautiful area. When you get settled in, boat back into Little Bay De Noc for walleyes. Run up the river there and fish for walleyes, smallmouth, northerns and trout. A great area.

Reminder:
Savage Fest 2018 is about a month out and shaping up to be a good one.
I need to know who is coming and how many tables if any.

Be sure to PM Rick99 or myself with names & number of attendees, number of tables, hotels or any other questions.

For those already attending, now is good time to think about what you will bring to the show.
99's, .22's, shotguns, combo's, ammo, sights, accessories, catalogs, memorabilia?
My advice is when in doubt, bring it! smile

I'm gonna clean out the freezer for any venison I can round up. If anyone wants to bring anything to throw on the grill, please do.

Rick,
What are street addresses of venues?
Cedarberry Inn is easy: north side HWY 12 / 855 Phillips Blvd on west end of Sauk City.
Is Rec. Center at 730 Monroe street? 1 block north of HWY 12?
Thanks,
Bruce

The addresses are correct Bruce.
The Hotel, facility, gas, food, hardware store, grocery store, Walgreens, Carr Valley Cheese are all on the strip within blocks of each other.

And if hanging with a bunch of swell guys (who eat well) with Savage Arms firearms, ammo, memorabilia and more wasn't enough.
Everyone that checks in at the door gets this one-of-a-kind swag!

Sorry to hear this Doug. There will be other chances. Anyone interested in an all 99 deer hunt from our camp in Pa? We could maybe set that up.

The actual Carr Valley plant is just outside of Cazenovia. I may bring a few pounds of FRESH curds with me if that's cool.

A "list" does not exist. smile

I'll have lunch and dinner covered for Friday & Saturday.

If any of you would like to bring bottle water, soda, snacks, a side/dessert, etc. that would be great.
We will have a snack table both days so no one starves.
I'll have coolers/ice, there is a frig/stove in the kitchen and/or we can use crock pots as well.

I'm counting on you as the grill-meister Saturday gophergunner!!

PM me with what you'll be bring'in. Thanks!

Things are shaping up for Savage Fest 2018 and everything is in place less a few minor details.
We have folks that have volunteered for setup, bringing food items, cooking food items, bringing door prizes, providing security and of coarse bringing your prized Savage firearms, ammo, memorabilia and do-dads. Should be fun.

If you have something to offer you can PM me and we'll work it out. Still time.

Thanks for everyone's interest and for pitching in!

Up late because the dog got me up to go outside. Anyways, can we get a total number of people going? I figure I will bring an original Upper Peninsula treat for everyone there.

Also, I have a bunch of scopes, stith boxes and factory ammo to sell very reasonable if anyone needs something. Just PM me and I will bring a box of stuff. I got all kinds of extra gear.

Treats are good! Hmmm,..what could it be?? Kromer caps would be a little expensive. So would pastie at $5 a pop.
Sounds like the "box of stuff" contains some door prizes. smile

At the moment about 35-40 folks have signed up for Friday, Saturday or both. PM's are still trickling in though.
Quite a few arrive Friday for setup and show and Saturday is generally the big day.

RAS-I'll be looking for a K-4 El Paso to mount on an as yet purchased 99 in .243 (looking for that gun at the show). If you have one, I'd much rather get it off you than on Flea-bay.

A few words I might pass on:

1- Now is the time to ask questions you might still have.

2 - It is always nice if you can put information with your display. Tags on rifles as to what it is and the caliber, etc.

3 - If you have asked for tables and for some reason can't make the Fest please advise Rick so we don't hold them for you. (We have 30 plus tables spoken for so should be plenty to look at)

4 - If you have one or two items for the door prize table it would be great!

5 - Weather for the weekend: Partly cloudy, low 60's to mid 80's, 10-20% chance of rain. Sounds good to me.

6 - Be safe out there. See you soon!

PS... might want to bring a little cash to help cover the cost. Rick has covered the up front cost of building rent, tables, chairs, food, snacks, etc. I don't feel right leaving him covering it all so I plan to put a good donation in the jar.

Just want to thank you guys, had a lot of fun at Savage Fest today, think I learned a lot...and probably added a couple things to my wish list. Was great meeting some of the great people on this site in person. I'll be looking forward to the next fest, might even have to add a Savage to the safe before then.

Thanks again for your hospitality,

Tim

Oh yeah, and that washing machine was cool as heck!!!

Eric and I just pulled in at home. Had a great time, and met some really nice folks. Hat's off to all who attended. I picked up a 99 in .243 for my granddaughter. I hope to get a deer with it this fall, and then hand it down to my son so he can get one or two with it before she is old enough to hunt. Upon arrival back home, Eric's wife was there to greet us with little Esther, and she was grinning from ear to ear. Just the kind of homecoming a granpa wants.

Special thanks to everyone. Eric and I both learned a lot. It was good to put some faces to the names we see here on the fire.

'Hope everyone made it home safe and sound.

This was my 4th Fest and they keep getting better. Everyone seemed to have great time. And we had twice as much good food as could be eaten. Maybe should be the Savage Food Fest! Gene's COMPLETE Savage washing machine was just cool. So complete you would need to use for mixed drinks vs. just a beer cooler. And of course all the 1899' and 99s with a few 1895s to boot. THANKS to Rick for hosting again.

Savage Fest 2018 is in the books.
The spirit of friendship, conversation, kindness and generosity were abundant.
Lots of laughs and learning as well.
Thanks to everyone who participated whether near or far. Everyone pitched in and it was a total team effort.
Savage Fest 2020 isn't that far away... smile

Count me in, where ever it's at. Really enjoyed the time with my son, and all our great members. Eric and I don't get many chances to spend time together, so it was a great chance for us to reconnect a bit.
