This book was written by an enlisted Public Affairs NCO. He joined the Army at the age of 40 and then spent a tour in Iraq and another in Afghanistan. The first part of the book is somewhat boring to someone who has previously served, but I am glad I stuck with it because I thought the second half of the book about being in Iraq and Afghanistan was really well done. In my opinion I think the author is a gifted writer. He does a good job of being able to capture the essence of a battle and the character of the Soldiers involved. The bulk of the story in Afghanistan was about his service with the 82nd Airborne in the most dangerous areas of the country. I really enjoyed it and recommend it. It has good reviews on Kindle and can be had for like a 1.99 or something.
