Does anyone have any data or a quickload recipe ?.or experience with heavy bullet loads ?
My buddy is using 24.5 grains of Reloder 16 with good results with 77 SMS and 70 RDF

Well I got out to the range with 24.5 gr of RL16 and 75 gr Amax Accuracy was there, under 1/2 moa, but velocity was approx 2550 fps. Compressed load, even with a drop tube.

I figured RL 16 was a little too slow for that application...
especially considering the velocity you got...
might try H 380 if you are looking for velocity and accuracy...

I use 25.5 gr A2520 with the 70 gr RDF, groups average .60 out of my Arms build, it has a 24 inch Shaw match barrel, this load runs 2990 fps. I think Rl 16 is to slow for 223, maybe you meant Rl15.

I was just curious about RL16 as it was very temp stable in my 6.5CM...and was hoping that it would work  I've become a real fan of the Alliant powders recently Ed

RL 16 is in the 4350 burn rate arena....
case isn't big enough in a 223, for it to burn and reach optimum pressure for decent velocity...
probably you will end up with a batch of it unburnt down your barrel....after each shot...
another way to tell if a powder isn't completely burning when you shoot...
hand a sheet or white cloth about 12 inches in front of your barrel, and shoot it thru the cloth
and then see how much powder didn't burn...
saw someone do that once, and rest was kinda interesting...

24.8-25 grs of varget gave me 2800 fps in a 20" tube with a 75 gr ELD.

Agreed about Re16 being slow for the 223. I considered getting some to try with a LRI 223AI 1-7" twist I have, but Varget is just right in burning rate with the heavies.
I use Lever in my 6.5 Grendel with good effect as I can cram a lot behind a 123 grain bullet.
