You have to have pretty good cheekweld to it. my problem is my eyes like a receiver sight better then an open sight. I still am glad it didn't get drilled for a lyman 21 or 38 tho. Don

Beautiful rifle! Excuse my ignorance but is the hole on the right side of the receiver and on top for a sight?

That's a great looking rifle, (and I don't even like 1895 Wins)! And in 405 WCF!!

Tell us the story of how that rifle came to be, because it was obviously born into high class!!

The hole on the right side of the receiver is an access hole to remove the finger lever pin (with appropriate punch) so the bolt can be removed for disassembly. Model 94 has such a hole too. Little pin holds the finger lever to the bolt!

If you look at the left side of receiver you see a screw head directly opposite the access hole. Remove this screw and tap out the finger lever pin! wink

Yeah! I love tinkering with these things! As I stated in another thread I have a pair of Providence Tool #21's to put on a pair of old 1980's vintage 1895's. One belongs to my old compadre and the other one is mine. Im even considering ordering new wood from Precision stocks and replacing the wood on my 95!

Crescent buttplate. Ebony schnabel inlay. Look more like a Winchester. wink

Thanks for the answer. I was wondering how a sight would go there. Always seen them further back and on the left. Very cool gun indeed.

Well that's f you're gonna install a #21 you do use that front hole for the sight. You have to drill a rear hole in the receiver for the elevator. That front hole gets replaces With a new screw! Pretty simple

Loggah,

Back when I was still working at the shop, a customer came in with two new Miroku winchester 95's he had Providence sights installed on. Naturally they were brought to me for the work. For some reason he wanted them removed and old sights put back. I really didnt think it ethical at the time to ask him if he would Like to sell those sights. But you are right. They are nice sights!!
