Which of the varied varmints give you the most trouble? For me generally it's the raccoon first, Coyote second and feral hog third. The rest skunks, possums and rats fill the fourth category. That said the rat is a difficult varmint to rid yourself of, especially older and smarter rats.

The orange cat that shows up at the house. He has avoided several traps so far and the only times I have seen it has been when it has been in line with the neighbor's house.
I had a coyote that I thought was going to evade retribution after killing my wife's chickens. He stuck around too long challenging my dogs and l was able to feed him a 50 gr hollow point.

I carry a handgun of some sort 90% of the time but it seems that cat lets itself be seen only when in line with the neighbor's house. I have stalked through that patch of ground many, many times trying to get a safe shot but the cat is never there. If not for tracks in the snow I would think it was an illusion.

I'd vote coons and possums around here, as that's what has killed more of my chickens than anything else. Hawks are also pretty bad, but you can't shoot them.

I'll vote coons. I'll kill every one of those turkey egg sucking little bastages I can legally. When a coon encounters something interesting the first thing the coon wants to know is if he can eat it, if he can't eat it he'll want to fugg it and if he can't screw it he'll chit on it. Damn a coon for being a coon! Aggravating sumbitches...

I have killed most if not all all of the aforementioned and rats top my list, I hate them. As a kid I would go with my uncle to the local dump at night and commit carnage. Landfill ruined a lot of fun. Nothing more fun than filling in as many holes as you can find and then run a plastic pipe into one hole and connect the other end to your muffler pipe, then clobber them with shovels when they come out.
Experience is what you get, when you don't get what you want!

I guess I'm lucky.....we don't have too many Varmint pests around here......a few Coon but my Cur dog keeps em in line.
I guess I'd have to say the the "Varmint" I hate the most are P-Pines due to the pain and suffering they've caused my dogs and wallet over the years.

I've whittled the coons down around here, the numbers haven't yet rebounded, but springtime is around the corner, and I expect I'll have to break out the trap and the .22 Shorts before long.

Friggin' bears. They were always tearing up our apple trees by climbing out the branches to break them down so they can get the apples. They did the same with pears. One of the funniest things we had happen was .. well, we had a quince "tree" (bush) and quince look a lot like apples except they have the most incredible pucker/sour taste you can imagine. A bear was going around biting quince apparently thinking they were apples, then slapping them one by one so they'd roll down the hill and across our lawn. They're also a menace to outdoor garbage cans. One morning mom came in off the back porch cussing whoever left whatever it was on the porch she'd fallen over. There was nothing on the porch. Someone .. my father or one of my sisters .. pointed out the black hairs on the front of mom's white pants legs. Yeah, she'd fallen over a bear in the dark. I'm not fond of coons or skunks either but they take a back seat to bears. Tom

Rick300: As of a couple years ago the Ground Squirrels have literally appeared (migrated!) into the fields that surround my house and into the edges of my lawns. We have been here 20 years and they had never been here before that! Sadly along with the Ground Squirrels comes the Badgers - and a Badger last summer dug a big'ol den/hole in my yard. I have been holding off shooting this Badger all winter as I want one of my travelling, non-Badger state house guest/Hunters, to bonk him this spring. And I am expecting the flocks of non-native Grackels/Starlings to re-appear here after their winter migration. So my "worst Varmint" list currently goes Ground Squirrel - Badger then Starlings. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

No telling what damage the anti-fur campaign has done to the game bird (really also lots of other wildlife) population. Trapping used to keep varmits in check, but no more. I give the coons to my black folk neighbors. I don't eat them and won't skin one for less than a dollar per hide.

I'll shoot just about any varmint that comes around when I'm properly armed and in shootable territory. However, the worst varmint I ever killed was a badger. We were bird hunting and this nasty badger was out in a field hissing and generally making a nuisance of himself. Made such a spectacle of himself, the birds wouldn't even come in to roost. He got uppity and started coming my way so I gave him a shot of birdshot and he just started coming faster, so gave in another couple shots of birdshot while jumping up on my truck bumper so he couldn't get to me. Finally dropped him at about 5 feet from me. Tried to skin him down at a creek close by, but the smell about made me puke so he got left for some other vermin to take advantage of..... damned nasty critters those darned things....
Been charged by a couple Porcupines also, but that is another story. Also, posted a long story a long time ago about being attacked by a wounded coyote. May have to dig that out again.....

Live in Texas.....without a doubt, hands down its feral hogs. They do 100 of thousands of dollars worth of damage every year, dangerous on our highways, and will eat just about anything. Second to them is rats that then make rattlesnakes come. Coyotes, bobcats, coons are nothing compared to damage and cost of pigs.

Same here. Back in my tender years, a 22 with a flashlight taped on in some manner provided the best riflery practice there is once the dump turned into a moving morass of of hair and tails right after dark and into the night. There was so many of them you felt like you were right in the middle of a Steven King novel except...he hadn’t started writing those awful tales yet. 🙂

HATE possum's! Ugly, hissing fuggers. Haven't seen any for a bit. Good! Now, it seems I'm dealing with feral cats. Got the mom and kittens corrected. One more got in my garage. He did not like a pellet gun at all. Or all the black pepper where I believe those friggin' cats got in at. It's what alerted me to the last cat. Bastid was sneezing a fit.

My worse are coons, possums, and squirrels. Coons will destroy sweet corn and eat chickens. Possums eat my dog food and will eat a chicken. Squirrels get into the barns, and have been known to chew the wiring, plus they will eat up a corn patch. I also have to shoot rabbits that get in the garden. Deer will eat up a garden if they get brave enough to get close to the house. I've also lost chickens to coyotes, bobcats, and hawks. Groundhogs dig in the barns, and will also eat beans and corn.
Come to think of it, just about everything around here is a pain in the azz. I probably despise coons and possums more than anything else, and keep out traps and will kill them on sight.

Worst for lots of people, but for me the best shoot that I ever had was in Hoy's dump on the outskirts of Milwaukee. The back story goes back to my freshman year in college when I was eating dinner in the cafeteria and my older hunting buddy came up and asked what I was doing that night? No class tomorrow so nothing I said, what did you have in mind? Do you have a .22 he asked? Yeah, but it is home a hundred miles away. No problem he says, lets go shoot some rats. Wells, his wife and I drive to get my 10/22 with the Leupold 2 3/4 Vari-X with a post reticle and we headed for Milwaukee to Hoy's dump, a huge sprawling garbage dump with dirt roads all through it. Wells and I sat on the hood of the car while his wife drove slowly around the dump roads shining the rats with the headlights. I think between us that we went through about a brick of .22's and we both shot those 10/22's hot. I'm not sure how Wells knew that old guy who had the dump, but I think that he could have sold tickets to do what we did for lots of that night. It made a heck of a memory.
My other auto is a .45

Coons are the worst , I have 8 of them as of this morning. Coyotes, fox, skunks possums, hawks dont bother my chickens. What does bother my chickens is the dam dogs people let out and they kill my chickens or beat them up real bad. I had a rat or some rats . It was easy getting rid of them. I could not trap them at all. I waited till a week of real cold winter nights came around. When it got down to -15 for a week, I took away the food in the chicken coop. Never saw a sign of a rat again.

I've had to whack five coons in the last two weeks this year. CCI Segmented Subsonics seem to work just dandy, even better than the .22 Short HPs I used last year on nearly 20 coons. This, living in town, means I've still got too damned many coons hanging around here.
