I've been in a Mannlicher stocked mood as of late and have a line on a CZ that I may be grabbing for the right price. Any cons to owning one!???

Please post pics and stories of yours if you have one.

Just my observation. I have a CZ, 455-FS and I like it. It's assuredly accurate. My beef with them is compared to a real Mannlicher/Schoenauer the stocks are pretty clubby....too thick in the forearm. They could lose at least 1/8 inch of wood.

This. A common failing of full-stocked rifles that a lot of folks just don't understand, and why most commercial full-stocks look like a 2x4 and feel like one in the hand. And how did full-stocked rifles all come to be known as "Mannlichers" in the dim dark past anyway? A lot of Mannlichers were made with half-stocks too. What did they call them before Steyr put their first one on a Mannlicher-Schoenauer?

As was stated they are kind of portly but, are accurate shooters. Even the later Steyr Mannlicher stock wasn't done right and felt clubby. Nothing feels better than the earlier Mannlichers with the exception of the Husqvarna 456.

The only cons I have to owning this little Sako Riihimaki in 222 Rem is that the funds required to acquire it are now out of the "available pot" and the rifle is not considered "trade goods." It is considered a keeper!

Husqvarna 456 in .30-06.

I'm currently stocking a Husqvarna 1600 series 9,3x62 Mannlicher style. Can't wait for that one to be completed.

Yeah, it will be VERY light weight. For once, I may install a recoil pad by choice! I'll definitely post pics.

I can see how a fella might become attached to this one. I don't have a single "magic" rifle that can suspend itself but I have something else to look for now!
Take care,

The top rifle is my dad's Husqvarna 458 in .308 Win, which he bought nearly new in the early 60's. It's the only deer rifle I ever saw him hunt with. Several years ago he gave it to me, as he can no longer get out into the woods very easily. It is wonderfully balanced and weighs 8 lbs. It's very accurate, too, shooting around MOA with several factory loads. I'm going to start shooting some of my hand loads in it this spring to see what it will do. The original nose cap, which went all the way to the end of the barrel, was lost several years ago, and the only replacement I've been able to find is the stainless one now on it.

I actually just got the CZ 550 FS 30-06 last night. Although used, it is in perfect condition and included the Leupold VX-1 2-7X and Talley QD rings. It weighs 8.5 lbs., but then again it is a long action and has all steel bottom metal, whereas the Husky is all alloy bottom metal. Looking forward to shooting this one soon, too.

As can be seen in this photo, the Husqvarna is a bit slimmer through the fore end, measuring .89" across the wood at the point closest to the nose cap, whereas the CZ is 1.00" The Husqvarna's stock is 1.62" wide just forward of the receiver, whereas the CZ is 1.87".

While the stock dimension is very noticeable when viewing, it is even more so when handling. That is why I prefer my Husqvarna 456 to all others.

Rick, is isn't one of those rifles that will shoot minute of angle every time, but it does hit what you aim at. It is also one that I seem to have with me when I need it, which is pretty magic to me... Hope you find yours before too long.

Harry
