Ran across this nicely preserved early 1950's K22 this morning and just had to have it. I had one a few years younger awhile back and traded it off on something I can't recall so the cupboard was bare of K22's--an intolerable condition! Serial is 13342x, and the grips number to the gun. From what I've read this puts it somewhere in the early 1950s, 51' or 52'. Looking forward to putting it back to work on the bullseye range.

Very nice. I have wanted one of those of that vintage for years.

That, sir is a beauty! The "flaunting" case colored trigger! Amazing! And great photo composition to show it's best side! Thanks for sharing.

One HAS to have a K22, about the gold standard for a 22LR revolver. I have a '48 and it's predecessor, a 1916 22/32 Heavy Frame Target. Would have to get a letter to see if it is a Beckert model. A bit of a misnomer, as it is an I frame and much smaller than the K frame K22. That is a pretty one. Serial should have K in front, 1951 from the lists.

There is a K in front of the serial number, about 3/4" forward on the butt.

Beautiful revolver. Target grips will give it a much better feel.

Beautiful.. My K from that period shows more wear, but it has been used much!!! I did pick up a mint 1948 K probably over 20 years ago.. Haven't shot it much.. Great revolvers,,

Target grips are nice, a much better feel for me with XXXL hands.. Grips numbered to the revolver will add to the value. Target grips were an accessory and are not normally numbered. You can get some after market ones from Thailand that don't cost a fortune and fit pretty well. Original S&W period ones run about $250.

I've had target grips on K-frames before but, for this K22, I'll likely keep the magna grips on it because I have found them to be just about perfect for my hands--with the addition of a Tyler-T grip.

That's a beauty, you're lucky to find one that old in that condition. I've had my K-22 (on the right) since 1960. It came with target hammer, trigger and grips. It has the target grips back on now. The one on the left is a K-38 that was old when I got it in 1985. I'll NEVER sell either one.

Beautiful gun...shows 1951 in the Standard Catalog of S&W.
I had the identical gun made in 1951 that I bought at a gun show back in the 1990s. Two years ago a friend was selling off his guns and had the same gun but with a target hammer made in 1952. I asked if he would trade as both guns were in the same condition and I was born in 1952 so would have a birth year gun...he did and sold my old gun off.
Since I am not teaching much any more I just put four K-frame .22s on GunBroker this week. 17 with an extra .22 Magnum cylinder, 1951 pre-18 with original Heiser holster, 48 with a extra Long Rifle cylinder and an 18 that had the gripframe rounded. Just going to keep the 1952 pre-17 and a 60s vintage 18 that has an extra Magnum cylinder...time to let others enjoy a good .22 rather them be safe queens...

Sweet revolver. I have added a couple of those myself in the last 6 months. One was so nice and in the box that it ended up in the safe. The other is a shooter pure and simple. Empty shotgun shells are no problem, as far as I can see them. When I look at it, I wonder how many different people have shot it over the years.
