You can get shot twice with a 60's era muzzle loader used in the congo and still take time for a smoke break before getting treated

I'd guess that the Swedish K he's holding got a few notches on it that day.

hell no and I don't plan on it either!

The story reads those Baluba warriors were putting whatever they could as a projectile into those blunderbuss type guns they had.

They were also likely saving powder by cutting the loads way down.
That guy on the left in the 2 pic looks like something from the Looney Tunes.

When everybody else has a gun and you only have a stick, you gotta be able put forth a good face.

Baluba #1: Go poke him.

Baluba #2: He sitting up smoking a cigarette!

Baluba #1: He been shot. Go poke him.

The pic was taken as Baluba #2 took his first step in the direction of Major Bonde.

As mentioned by KFWA:

I wish I could recall the specifics, but years back I saw film of a gorilla hunt (obviously this had to be way back - probably 60's when such was still acceptable) where the natives were enlisted to help the great white hunters. The natives were all packing muzzle loaders and near any metal object imaginable was used as a projectile. There were screws, nuts, the old keys that wound metal strips off of Spam cans, folded nails, rolled sardine cans, bearings, etc all dropped down the barrel. With no wads atop the load, one had to carry his rifle at port arms to keep the contents from spilling out.

I can only imagine the sounds and carnage as half of the village dump went whistling off through the trees. If memory is correct, the mob did bag a gorilla. I don't recall if it died from trama or possibly from an accompanying case of blood poisoning from all the crap it was hit with.

As an aside - Anyone can handle a gunshot. It takes a real man to face lung cancer.

Pretty cavalier about getting shot in the chest... tough SOB. Interesting pictures...
