I've always advocated, and train the officers, SNCOs and NCOs under me, to gain as much info as can be quickly gathered, then act on that in a purposeful fashion. Whether it was "right" or "wrong" is only revealed once the action is taken, and like sniping, the feedback informs the next shot, which should be a kill shot.
