I remember the brothers with Larry Barr and a huge, maybe state record buck they guided him to in a sleeping indian advertisement years ago, back when magazines were cool. Grin
Couple great guys died around the same time from cape buffalo, Bob Fontana also comes to mind. Shiity deal for sure....
Yep, that Barr buck is an absolute monster. I don't think it's the Idaho state record, but it's close...

If I have my pics straight, & they might not be, this is the Barr buck. IIRC, it is Idaho #2 or 3. I applied for that late season tag where he killed it for 20 years straight & never drew it; applied for a Shiras tag in WY & drew on the 1st try..........go figure. I think that some that RT killed were bigger but never got entered.................... MM

The one we're talking about is a big typical. Thanks for posting that buck it's a hammer too!
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Never met Barr; got lots more pics from that time frame............lots of massive deer taken from around '85 - '95'ish.
Then the poacher's, 'cats & some bad winters knocked hell out of the deer.

I took this picture in the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, Wyoming back in 1994. I don't know if it's still there or not..net score is over 215".

Thanks................I don't have that pic of Barr's buck. Looks bigger than the pic of the #1 that SC posted.
Barr killed that buck in '95 late season, special draw tag, in Swan Valley...............that tag was golden at that time but only if there was snow. I was never able to draw it.
RT had a couple of heads in his house that likely would have been book heads had they been entered.

Actually, I do have a different pic of Barr's buck but with Cash & the deer.......................didn't have it ID'd as Barr's deer. You can identify it by the slightly curved out tines on both sides, on the main beam on the left in the pic & on the rear fork on the right in the pic. MM

My 2017 Montana Muley. Couple of brow cheaters behind the ears. Looks puny compared to the Barr Buck, but it was a good stalk. My Dad's still hunting hard at 80. Beanland/Definance .260/120g GMX Sinclair Leather Sling made the difference. (Thanks Pat)

Back in 91' a couple pals and I were on our way to SW Wyoming to hunt antelope in the Red Desert, and we stopped in Jackson, for lunch, and found a little taxidermy shop across the street from the cafe. This rack was laying on a table in there. It was pretty nice.... No idea on the story, but glad we snapped a pic of it. Notice that, "wish this was mine" look on my face....;)

MM I never knew those guys as this was just slighty before my time, but have met and sometimes still do hang out with a fair number of folks that did/do know them and spoke pretty highly of them. Idaho has always been a sleeper state for huge mule deer, though drawing the really good tags is about as hard as getting a sheep tag these days. General hunts there can be pretty damn good too if you get away from the crowds. I know of two really awesome general season bucks that came out of the Palisades area this last year.
