...a mold that comes up to temp and fills out nicely! These are 358429s for a sweet little three-screw flat-top 4-5/8" Blackhawk. I have not loaded this bullet before, it's a new mold. Anyone have a recipe using AA 4100 (preferred) or Alliant 2400?

Thanks.
I thought someone may have suggestions on a charge of AA4100 for this bullet, but I'll just play with four different charges and see for myself. I was not sure the cylinder of my BH would be long enough for using the crimp groove, but it has worked out and they fit...by about 50 or 60 thousandths. I'll report on the results when I get a chance to shoot.

I have always used Bullseye, Unique and 2400 with those bullets, charges from the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook.

I have plenty of 2400 to fall back on if the 4100 fails to please (AA4100 works NICELY in my .41 mag shooting 410610s). What charge did you like best?

and I just read somewhere that you should use standard primers NOT magnum, when using 2400.

While I'm a huge fan of Elmer and Paco Kelley, and inspite of the pounds of 2400 I've burned in the .357 I've found H-110 produces better accuracy with 160-200 gr. 15.5-16.0 with a 160-170 gr seems to do the trick in my blackhawk.
Mag or standard primer requirements are a combination of if the powder is difficult to ignite and how much powder you're burning. The .357 just doesn't hold enough powder to need a magnum primer, but in low temps using H-110/W-296 you'll likely be better off with a mag primer.

How hard a alloy did you make them from? I picked up a new 5 hole Arsenal mold in 358429 awhile back for a song.I used a Lee gang mold handles for it. Once I got the mold to temp it really thru some nice bullets .715 bullets in less than 3 hrs I used a softer alloy for use with HP38 in my M14 SW K frame for target shooting and they do shoot better than 158 swc's so far. Just target velocities in my light 38 Spcl. 2000 rds to the pound, cheaper shooting than my 22lr. From the same guy at the gun show I bought a 358156 HP Lyman mold another that I wanted for a long time, I believe that bullet was highly favored by Skeeter Skelton. Nothing like making your own casting to loading. MB

How hard a alloy did you make them from? That would be hard to say, but I'd guess they'd be around 11 to 12 BHN.
