I have an 1893 Marlin in 38-55. Has a 26 inch oct. barrel. Ser# is 96xxx. Beautiful bore and she shoots v good, great shape overall for a 125 year old rifle. I sent for a Cody letter. The letter says it was shipped on August 16, 1893, nothing else. How could this be a first year rifle with that high of a ser#??? Only explanation I heard that made any sense was that they may have just continued ser #s for a different model like an 1889. I can send a picture if someone PMs their phone or email. TY

Looks like a beaut! I don't know much about Marlin history, but the serial number explanation sounds believable. BLR358WIN's rifle.

Can't see photo, but it has no holes on top of reciever and no screw on lower part of receiver on the opposite side of receiver opening. Deff an earlier gun from what i could research.

Marlin used one serial number range for all their early rifles, model 1881,1888,1889,1891,1892, 1893,1894,1895, and 1897.from 1881 thru 1916 there were only around 460,000 rifles made in all models. your 1893 is one of the early ones without the extra trigger plate screw, marlin had trouble with the early trigger plates flexing and added a extra screw to stiffen the action on later 1893 models. I just bought a very similar gun this week,1896 manufacture,38/55,real decent condition.Wanted a 93 in 32 special, found this one, going to shoot it tomorrow.I looked at a 93 in 30/30 yesterday, looked brand new, asking $9000.I thought that was awful pricey

That is good news. Absolute joy to shoot. I also shot another 1893 in 30-30. Shot even better than the 38-55 and the action was as slick as grease!!

My .32-40 1893 is a bit newer (1900) but not as good shape. Fun shooter though.

I just picked up an 1893 in 30-30 from a member here. Sposed to show up tomorrow with another rifle in 25-35. That'll be a good day.
